What was your finest moment on the SDMB?

Vix and I were talking a bit last night, and she convinced me to take a foray back into MPSIMS, from which I have been absent for a while. So, y'all can blame her if this thread crashes and burns.

A few days back in the Pit, there was a thread that required me to link back to a post of mine from two years ago. On rereading it, I got the same chuckles I had when I wrote it, so in a massive episode of rampant egotism, I'm reposting it here.

That's right, folks, my finest moment on the Boards is a dick joke. My mother is very proud.

Now, as cover for my narcissism, I ask that the rest of you post a link to your personal highlight reel, your best moment on the Boards, be it humorous, poignant, or devastating.

I look forward to reading them.

Sua

Actually, Sua . . . this is better suited for IMHO. I'll move it for you.

I have the 21st most replied to thread in the Pit, which also ranks 6th in number of views: "What is the Dumbest Thing You've heard anybody say?"

Of course, it was closed for no reason by Lynn Bodoni, who seems to be the most... enthusiastic of thread closers.

Part of the reason I periodically drop out of sight is because I know I'll never be able to top this one. I mean, you just don't get good troll material like JDT anymore.

So yeah, my finest moment on the Board is a dick joke too

I have to say the outpouring of love and support when my daughter passed away. Perhaps the fine moment wasn't exactly mine, but I never felf better reading anything else on the SDMB.

This is a bit narcistic (is that the word? It is now!), but what the heck.

I've posted a lot on these boards, as you can see, and I'm not stopping just yet. But it's absolutely certain that I'll never write as good an OP as in this thread: May 5, 1945 - We shall remember.

It's a great thread. But to a large extent, that's because of the many fantastic responses in that thread. So many stories of almost forgotten heroes - incredible. I merely started the thread, admittedly with a damn good OP, but the still continuing addition of touching stories to the thread is what makes it stand out above just about any other thread on these boards, IMHO.

Heck, all of my posts here are triumphant victories!

Nah, not really. But I do count just about any thread where I actually help someone, like this one, as a job well done.

That being said, one of my personal favorites was this one in the "Fat People" Pit thread.

I don't think anyone noticed, but in this thread (here), I managed to coherently explain some stuff. I actually looked back at it the other night (I wanted to retract my cursory defense of PWs due to a BAD experience that night), and realized I'd done a damned good job, at least in my own eyes. Which, really, is all that matters.

The thread that means the most to me is from last September, when my wife and I lost two babies and a family member.

My favourite funny (IMO anyway) posts have been:

The reply to Coldfire in this thread

The reply to Libertarian's post here - I'll show him parody, dammit!

I'm astounded that I got away with my post in this GD thread

And this thread shows what happens when I'm on new pain meds. It had it all: Speak and Spell, Pancakes, Bacon and Sweet, sweet, lovin'. Occasionally, some people would even try and keep the thread on topic.

The joke I made on page 2 of this thread was, IMHO, absolutely brilliant on so many levels. Some people got it, but I don't think anyone truly appreciated the sheer genius it displayed.

A couple months ago I started a thread in MPSIMS titled "Murphy's Laws for the SDMB" (too lazy too look up the link for it now). It made it into "Threadspotting."

Off the top of my head I can only come up with my thread "Hey, Seuss!" that made it into Threadspotting.

Also the "Without any pants on" thread was popular, so while it wasn't specificly about dicks, there was potential for it to be!

BTW, Coldfire. I just wanted you to know that is the thread I thought of as I was reading this thread and saw your reply.

It was damn nice. I wish I was there to see the scene, although you describe it well enough I can imagine it.

For whatever reasons he had in his little fluffy head, matt_mcl found my post to the Stereotype yourself thread so overwhelmingly alluring that he emailed me to say hello. Five months later, I'm off to see him in a few weeks (EEEE!), and have long-term plans involving emigration and a proper down-on-one-knee-in-a-restaurant proposal.

I should post more often. Nice things happen.

Well, nobody but Diane seemed to enjoy it, but I had fun breaking character and writing this response to Markxxx's thread, No Straight Man in the World Would Ever say That.

That thread approached meltdown independently of my meager contribution.

Hmm..., probably not what one might describe as a "finest moment."

But perhaps my own favorite was my Burger King Onion Ring thread. Heh.

Cranky, that onion ring thread was for DAMN sure my favorite thread of yours. I read it at my mother's house and we were in tears from giggling.

As for the OP, how can I possibly choose between 1200+ moments of equal mediocrity and inconsequence?

Right now, I'm feeling pretty good about In a Universe Populated Only by Dopers…Who’d Become Your SO? Not only was I the FIRST Doper selected, I was named by three different Dopers.

This, by the way, is the exact polar opposite of how women react to me in the RW, and yet another among the many reasons I love this place.

I've always been very proud of this rant I posted about an unfortunate Ultimate Frisbee experience of mine.

But I'd have to say my finest moment was receiving this compliment from the esteemed Shirley Ujest in the "flame yourself" thread last year.

Wow, this really brought back the memories.

I think I was most compassionate here.

But I was pretty helpful here.

And just to be scarey, my first thread. A poll on my second day as a Doper. You can already see the genius shining through. Just a little polish and I'm the gem you all know and love today. (Yes, you DO know and love me.)

Treviathan That post of yours continues to crack me up.
You are obviously wasting your brainpower on the real world endeavors. You need to spend more time here and produce funny stuff. You inebriated glob of mayonaisse.

Kal that parody of Lib's was funny. Can Washte do my math problems too?

Ok, enough of the Mutual Admiration Society.

I rarely venture out of the warm and fuzzy worlds of MPSIMS and IMHO, as you dopers in GQ and Great Debates are jest two durn smert fer the likes of me.

But, who can resist a thread titleCould God Himself Make a Burrito So Big even he couldn't eat it?

I just cracked myself up with it....and naturally, I killed the thread.

I made it to Threadspotting with the help of the Disembodied Santa Head (Of Death). That was quite fun.

Incidentally, the little bugger was very quiet this Yuletide. Batteries finally gave out. No one in the family is very keen on replacing them. (Budding Evil Genius has been warned of severe consequences-- involving pain, torture, and utter embarrassment in front of friends -- should Mr. Kringle be suddenly resurrected.)

minty green vs. John Ashcroft. Most of the thread was lost in the Winter of Missed Content, but the opening rant is still here, and all four or five pages are still cached at Boardreader.

I peaked far too early, frankly. The battles and my ultimate Pyrrhic victory in the Ultimate Rochambo Fighting Arena about two months after I joined the list were, if I do say so myself, a masterpiece of comic writing.

As a close second, I'm particularly fond of my rendition of Straight Dope Newbie in Fenris's Odes to Various Forums thread. Be glad the LonDope's don't take place at karaoke bars, or I'd likely be up there singing it...

I had one disappear in the great board crash but Opal was good enough to have saved it in the Page O Funnies. Unfortunately, subsequent funny comments by CrankyAs and others no longer are there to accompany it.

I'm not sure that this url will put you right on it... you might have to scroll down several pages but it starts off with "I'm a closet shitter."

Hey Mister, how'd you do that funny thing with your shit?
