Warcraft 3....

Don't know if this should be in IMHO or somewhere else but... I have 64 MB of RAM and it says there should be at least 128 MB of RAM to run it. How much more should I get to play it adequately? Another 64? Or atleast some 256? Thanks!

I don't know if you can even find 64meg sticks of RAM anymore - go with the 256, it shouldn't be more than $30 anyways.

W3 doesn't run very well on my 128. Go with 256; if you like playing in big games (8-12 players) I'd go 516 if possible.

I had 512 and it slowed down on some of the huge battles. More=better!

DANG! Yeah.. they still sell 64 meg sticks. And I was thinking of buying some 256 MB and adding it on to my measly 64 megs. But that's only be 320 megs. I'll try to atleast put some 512 more. I found a great deal online they're selling these things at 40 percent off and NO SHIPPING OR HANDLING FEE!! (only in the U.S) Check it out: http://www.oempcworld.com/category.html;$sessionid$ETMX34QAAA0UBTZENUFJPQWPERWRJPX0?UCIDs=1029376

I'd go for 512. I have that much, and I haven't had slowdown problems. Make sure you have a decent video card too. You pretty much better have a GeForce2 or better to run it.

Don't forget to make sure you get the right speed memory. 133s would be better in a machine that can take it but wouldn't work if the machine can only use 100s.

mine takes 100s. I still need help with my question. It's a Compaq Presario 5000 and bought from here in U.S. I don't know if I should only buy the type they sell from Compaq.

Um pc133 memory can work in pc100 slots, last I checked. Also, I have 512MB and a Radeon 8500 (64MB) card on my desktop (800MHz). My laptop is a 1.7 GHz w/512 MB and a Radeon 7500 (32MB) card.

I mention this because War3 sucks on both machines when the big battles hit online. At home, no slowdown. Oh yes, and I have a DSL connection. The game is unplayable (IMO) online. Last I played was (looks at ladder) December 13. Haven't really missed it.

Oops. By "at home" I meant playing the computer, single player (i.e. no networking required).

its not your computer...its your video card and the start up directory (dns)(i think its directory networking system)error. Erase all of your dnns and then you'll have some better luck! Or go ahead and try to get some help from www.dragonclan.net (a clan devoted to Warcraft 3 and have a lot of forums on there) Are you sure that pc133s work on pc100s? Do you have a cite or link? (perhaps Microsoft or Compaq stating this)

Vid card'll probably have a lot to do with it too. I was running a GeForce 2 GTS when I was playing WC3. YFRMV (Your Frame Rate May Vary)

That may be true, one of my brothers sells memory among other things and I may be misremembering what he told me. Something tells me it wouldn't be good for the module though.

God, WarCraft 3 is a monster. Even HAL isn't sophisticated enough to run that program. If your computer isn't up to the job, any "light" effects won't play - meaning if you're Night Elf, you can't see your peons!

At least that's my experience. My computer supposedly exceeds the requirements of the game, but I'm sure it cuts some corner somewhere. Anything you can do to help your computer out will be well worth the money. Go with more memory.

You probably need to download the latest patch for that problem. Check out www.clandragon.net or www.blizzard.com

Jeff Olsen: I heard somewhere that it might work, but to not always try it. It read that the client should check with their local retailer or something.

I agree. I found it to be almost unplayable on my two Macs, neither of which is *that* obsolescent -- a G3 Powerbook, and a B&W G4. Neither of them had a macho enough video card to handle all of the effects, even when turned down. So it looked like crap and I lost interest.

Ah, one of these days, maybe I'll splurge on a new video card, but frankly, I had no problems with the graphics in WC II, and you could play it on something less than a supercomputer.

nevermind Jeff Olsen: I just called my retailer and they found out that 133s do work wayyyy better on 100s! Talk about cheap! These chips go by atleast way under 100s.
