Gamers, I need Advice

My husband has just discoverd the wonderful world of games. Now he wants to play 24 hours a day.

Ahem, so I need advice on how to best upgrade my run of the mill Compaq to best run games and play online.
I have ordered a memory upgrade, but that is as far as I have gone.

(Right now we are on Warcraft…)

Thanks!

What games? What Compaq do you have right now? How much to spend?

More RAM is always a good starting place though. Good call there.

Presario (Can’t remember number I am at work)

Limited money (I can do small pieces at a time)

Warcraft and Comand and Conquer at the moment.

Hm, as long as you’re sticking to Warcraft, more RAM may be all you need. If he discovers World of Warcraft, on the other hand, more drastic measures may be in order.

In the meantime, if you have a model number and/or specs (CPU speed and video card mostly), that would be useful.

I see, will post more when I get home to look at said pc.

And… he has discovered it. Thus the need for speed.

Ya gotta be a bit more specific than that

Virtually all their desktops are called Presarios, so the model number is really important.

How much money does “limited” mean? There are upgrades available at every price point, from $50 to $500 to $5000, and an exact budget would make looking for a suitable item a lot easier.

Also, which Warcraft and which Command and Conquer is he talking about? Both names belong to huge series; there are 4 or more Warcraft games and more than half a dozen Command & Conquer games. Each one has different requirements.

Hm, if this is WoW we’re talking about, there’s another issue that you should consider before upgrading the computer: Do you like spending time with your husband? If the answer is yes, you don’t want your computer running WoW all that well.

Oh, there’s a simple solution to that. Just get two computers running WoW ;).

That’s what we did.

A good video card is a must for WoW, especially with the new weather effects in the next patch. The more RAM the better.
