Favorite One-Hit Wonder
I still enjoy some Marcy Playground. Who can't appreciate a little "Poppies" or "Sex and Candy" every now and then?

Many of these do not qualify as one-hit-wonders outside the USA.
Mine would be Fade to grey - Visage. |

If you were here - Thompson Twins.
Although they had moderate sucess with other numbers none were as succesful as this one.

Some of my other favourites include: Tainted Love by Soft Cell I Ran by A Flock of Seagulls Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves I disagree slightly with maleinblack; i thought that Hold Me Now was an equally big hit for the Thompson wins.

Afternoon Delight, Starland Vocal Band
i]The Boys Are Back in Town[/i], Thin Lizzy Joy, Apollo 100 Come on Eileen, Dexy's Midnight Runners Pictures of Matchstick Men, Status Quo Supermodel 2, RuPaul Whip It, Devo Some artists mentioned above don't count as "One-Hit Wonders": Katrina and the Waves had two other Top 40 hits in the U.S. beside Walking on Sunshine; ditto for The Knack and My Sharona (remember Good Girls Don't?). |

Golden Earring had a massive hit in 1973(?) with Radar Love from their album Moontan. They also had some European hits in the 60s.

"Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" Crash Test Dummies
"Weird Out" Dandelion (strangely there is just about nothing to indicate this band ever existed, yet they were somewhat popular in 1995 with this song. The only other person I've found who remembers them is a friend of mine who was apparently in the band briefly. Interesting.) "Here Comes The Hot Stepper" Ini Kamoze (God I hated this song. It was everywhere around December 1994. Yet...part of me likes it.) |

Will two hits count? If so, did Gilbert O'Sullivan have anything resembling a hit after
Alone Again (Naturally) Clare? I bought an album for Alone Again, and all the other tunes sounded like copies. Even Clare has a sameness to it. Even if he only had Alone Again, it was a winner. |

Judy in Disguise (with Glasses by John Fred and his Playboy Band. One of the most infectious songs ever.
Other options: Green-Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf (they had a second single "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" about five years later, but no one remembers it). I Got a Line on You by Spirit was the closest thing to a hit they had, and did get good FM airplay.

Hey, acrossthesea, I saw Dandelion in 95 or 96 at the 9:30 club in DC and met them backstage, as my friend knew one of the members...they were good!

My uncle's group The Chaps was labelmates (on Paula Records) with the guys who did Judy in Disguise. I believe one of the singles they had was "Forget Me".

Two tribes by FGTH was just as big - in Europe at least.
Then again, from my perspective Barry Manilow is a one-hit wonder as he only charted in Holland wiith Copacabana...

Rico Suave - Gerardo
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground Bust A Move - Young MC Jump Around - House of Pain Take On Me - a-ha Tainted Love - Soft Cell I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers But the absolute coolest and/or most bizarre example may be True by Spandau Ballet. Great, great song. Everyone assumes that it's a love song (logical given the melody and the title), but have you listened to the words on this song. It makes no frigging sense. At all. Nobosy cares though. |

The single of the song Jesus Christ Superstar was credited to "Murray Head With The Trinidad Singers." It debuted on the Billboard Top 40 chart on 8 May 1971, topped out at #14, and stayed on the chart for a total of 8 weeks.
