Thing is, that topic is very old, and closed. So what somebody did was start it again here.
Now, I’m not going to bump that thread up as it is so old it has dinosaur droppings on it. Many of those posters may not even come here anymore. However, I have many times in the past wished there was sort of a members list of everyone who was here at the current time. So if it’s not too much to ask, I’d like to see it tried again.
Mods and/or Admins, close this topic if you think it’s a bad idea, or if it’s not my place to make a thread like this here.
However I hope to have this topic as the former link above with each member that is regestered posting in here and being accounted for so that we (or at least I) may form a list of sorts of members of today.
I’d be happy to every so often put all the posters in here in alphabetical order and also by year regestered. I have nothing else better to do.
So here I am. One member so far checked in and accounted for.
I’d just like to say that today was the first day in god knows how long that I had to re-sign in at the SDMB. I think the last time I signed in was when the board got back up after being hacked and we were all tranferred to bboard.
Well, I’ll post. But this is a Quixotic effort. 1920’s style.
First, only a small fraction of active posters will post in this thread. Heck, there are a large percentage who never even open this Forum.
Second, we’ve been averaging about 35 newly registered posters every day. Most of them will likely not make their appearance here.
Third, even if they do post here, it is unlikely that they’ll remain active for too long. I forget the estimate exactly, but kabbes calculated that new posters remain active for an average of about 90 (?) days. Whatever the actual number was, it was shockingly short. Obviously, being an average it is affected by Trolls, Sock Puppets, and other quickly Banned members who bring down the average.
I suppose one could request a “roll call” thread for those members who’ve been active for more than say 6 months. Though the first problem would still exist.
I once had visions of creating this active membership list too. I gave it up as unworkable. One needs to be able to mine the data, searching the registration list for last post date. Even then however, one would miss those members who actively read but rarely post.
jjimm, this thread should last long enough for them to come back and see it. Unless they’re gone for a couple of months or something. What I’d be concerned about are those people who never check out this forum!
