Guitar players. Axes you have owned?

All the guitars I’ve ever owned, as far as I remember. Sort of in order of ownership…

Avon SG copy - my first electric
Fender Telecaster
Explorer (home made, really quite decent)
Twin-neck 6/12 string copy
Horrid cheapo LP ‘copy’ now converted to a 12 string
Vox Strat ‘type’ nondescript
Hohner Strat copy white w/fake turtleshell scratchplate
Tokai 2 humbucker Strat
Yamaha SF (I think) 24 frets - not the Les-Pauly one)
Shergold Masquerader
Epiphone Casino (sunburst)
Semi-accoustic - red make forgotten
Big bodied ‘jazz’ style f-hole make forgotten
Casio midi-guitar black, funny unguitar like shape Strat p/u layout
Gibson Les Paul Junior 1 p/u red (natch)
Jackson Soloist dark blue 24 frets locking whammy
Ibanez RG 550 black 24 frets locking whammy (seeing a pattern here)
Fender Performer Salmon 24 frets locking whammy (ahem)
Ibanez SA160 black 22 frets locking m/c heads (all better now)
Paul Reed Smith blue bookmatched flame top
Gibson Les Paul Gold Top of very dubious origin

Accoustics:

Two of: Yamaha Steel string - not Jumbos (one smashed/rebuilt and given away)

Honourable mention to my Dad’s Framer Jumbo that I started out on.

Also:

Washburn headless ‘Status’ style bass
Sitar
Banjo (currently out on loan)
Mandolin - gone to meet its maker

Needless to say (surely) I don’t still own all of this zoo. Any guesses what I still have? What would you have kept? What’s your list?

Drool.

That’s just too goddamned many. What, you heat your house in the winter with guitars?

Anyway:

“Applause” acoustic (cheapass ovation copy)
Peavey Falcon (fender copy that I destroyed trying to fit a floyd rose on there)
Gibson Les Paul Studio

ummmm… that’s it.

“What would you have kept?”

The PRS. Do you still have it?

How do you remember all that stuff is my question. . .

Anyway, my list (not quite so detailed because I simply don’t remember the details):

Cheapy acoustic guitar (the ordered-from-a-dept. store-catalog variety)
Squire strat
Peavey something-or-other (strat-ish copy)
Some kind of Ibanez (in ~$300 range or so, my first locking tremolo)
B.C. Rich Warlock
B.C. Rich don’t-remember-what-it-was-but-it-had-a-sweet-natural-wood-finish
Gibson Explorer (1986 or so, custom (?) paint, bought used for $600)
Not-so-cheapy-but-not-real-good-either acoustic guitar
Gibson Flying V

Somewhat in order of acquisition.

That’s all that I can remember off the top of my head. There probably were more. I’ve had the Explorer for years, still have it, and probably will forever. I still have the second acoustic also. I traded the V in on a bigger amp.

You better have the PRS and the Gibson Gold top!

Yamaha RBX250 4 string bass ( I defretted this myself)

Yamaha BBN5 5 string bass (see the pattern…no money)

G&L SB-1. Best bass ever. I bet it used for $500, and it had been upgraded with 3 EMG pickups in the “hot rod” set up. Plays like butter.

Nylon Acoustic–Stolen

Fender Acoustic–Broken

  1. Washburn Force 2. Was severely damamged in a fire about 10 yrs. ago but I still have it. My mom bought that for me when I was 13.
  2. Ibanez Acoustic. Crappy. One of those beginner acoustic deals.
  3. Gibson SG (cherry) very nice.

My husband has a Sadowski (modeled after the 59 strat) and a Fender Telecaster (like Keith RIchards’)

A slight distraction if I may:
I’m selling a never played out studio only Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Combo Amp 2 12’ speakers 100 watts. What would you say a good price is? It was purchased new for $2100. It’s 4 yrs. old, but mint. I’m thinking $1500.

Accoustics: My first guitar was a 1962 Sears Silvertone - probably cost $25.00 new. Traded that in on a 1963 Gibson LGO. In 1972, sold the LGO for what I paid for it ($75.00), and bought a Yamaha FG 250. Still have the Yamaha, but I mostly play a 1982 Gibson J-45 Deluxe.

Electrics: I used to have a cherry red 1967 Gibson SG electric and a 1968 Hofner 500/1 bass. Sold both of those in the mid-70’s and haven’t played much electric since.

But I wish I still had that Hofner bass!

I had a 1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom, cherry sunburst, brass hardware, black pickguard - for almost two years.

Before I was even finished paying for it, it was stolen.

So much for being a musician…

**Eleusis ** you remind me I had an Applause accoustic at some time, I guess I haven’t remembered them all (how scary is that?).

**moejuck ** yup - I still have the PRS and the Gold Top (P90s) . And the Explorer, Telecaster, Performer, Ibanez SA, bass and most of the non electric stuff. But that’s all. (oops nope, I still have the horrid LP copy now a 12 string guess I try to forget that one)

I really wish I still had the Les Paul Junior that was a good guitar. And the Epiphone, the Shergold was interesting, the Tokai strat was nice too, and the Yamaha electric. Oh dear I guess I don’t wanna go there ::sighs::

troub I don’t know why I remember them all. What I wonder is how I managed to pay for them

first geetar was a ‘rockster’, a super cheap strat copy I bought off a kid at school for £30, with a little Gorilla practice amp. That broke, so I saved up and got my Epiphone LP-100, which I still use. sunburst, and I painted a Jimmy Page Zoso symbol on the headstock
I also still have a Danelectro, and my Yahama Acoustic, but it doesn’t have any strings on it at the minute.

Remembered a couple more

Pearl Les Paul copy, really quite good (fixed neck maple top) used for bottleneck, I’ve got photos of me playing it at a gig how did I forget this?

Home-made “Danelectro” longhorn. Couldn’t find the real thing, given to brother.

Good lord thats a lot of guitars. I’ve only have 2. A mitchel accoustic and an ibanez electric. They were my first and only guitars I’ve ever bought. Probably will be the only ones too, since I’m so attached to them. Had them nearly 10 years now.

Dang, y’all have a lot of guitars…

I have an Ibanez AEF30…someone want to teach me how to play it?

Actually, I can sloppily play some U2 music, but I really need to take lessons when I’m able to make it a priority

Alright, gotta get in on this.

Current guitars:

1-Brian Moore Custom electric (my baby)
2-Roland GR series electric (with MIDI interface)
3-Silvertone by Samik acoustic (cheapo for the kids to bang on)
4-Taylor acoustic (my other baby)
5-Martin travel guitar (busted)
6-Martin travel guitar (working)
7-vintage Gretch acoustic (busted but worth repairing–it’s just a cracked bridge)
8-Danelectro acoustic (made out of parts apparently, that were available when the company went out of business)
9-really vintage Kay acoustic (beat to s*** but it has a big, boomy, rich sound that I love)
10-Washburn acoustic
11-Epiphone nylon-string acoustic
12-Chinese Pipa*

From the past:

Gibson acoustic of some dark wood (mahogony?)–my very first
Fender Jazzmaster? electric–my first electric
Black Ibanez Les Paul copy–ohhh, how I loved that guitar! Well, the way it looked anyway.
That funky white Ovation electric that kinda looked like a half-moon.
A really cheap, junky, imported electric that I got at a garage sale and was gonna smash on stage whenever we played a big concert, but it got stolen before I had a chance.
Rare Bird electric (made by a luthier here in Denver) also stolen, dang it.
And…jeeze…a bunch of others I can’t remember right now.

Clanger let’s get together and open a used guitar shop. We can sell all this stuff and then go into acting or something.

*Yeah, I know this isn’t a guitar, but all the OTHERS were listing non-guitar string instruments. “I suppose if all the other guitar players jumped off a cliff you’d jump off too.” Yeah, mom, I probably would.

Yamaha acoustic (my very first, stayed intact even though I threw it down a flight of stairs)

My beatnik brother-in-law’s Silvertone classical guitar (since returned to him)

12-string jumbo Guild

Takamine C-130 (my first real classical guitar; I’ve since dropped a Fishman pick up into it)

A 1984 custom shop Gibson Les Paul with gold hardware (my pride and joy of the electrics)

1980 Martin koa wood acoustic, one of 500 made, and only 11 sold; mum bought it from a lady whose daughter took exactly 2 music lessons on it.

late 1960s short-scale Gibson 12-string acoustic

1956 Fender Mustang Bass

2001 Picado classical short scale (my main guitar and the other pride and joy)

1999 Gibson Flying V (autographed, so I don’t play it anymore)

1980 Gibson Flying V (the 99 is red, and the 80 is bright yellow – home and away Arsenal colours, are my Vs)

A mahoghany Taylor Baby, which used to travel with me, but I stopped all that after the airports increased all the screening, etc.

1957 Gibson ES 140T(this looks a little like a semi-acoustic Les Paul; it’s tiny and cute.)

1966 Gretsch Corvette (the original owner tried to sell it 3 times – each time to a different college student who thought it looked cool, and discovered it sounded like what it was, a cheap 60s guitar. This is why I love it)

1975 (I think) Gibson L6 deluxe

a mandolin
a psalter handmade in Germany which satisfies my bowing jones (played cello briefly as a child)

I had a Martin backpacker, but I sold it; I just didn’t like the bad balance.

I have 3 amps – a small Dean Markley practice amp, a Mesa/Boogie Subway Rocket, and a Mesa/Boogie Mark IV.

And in 3 days, I will be back in Denmark Street in London, looking (and ONLY looking) at more…

I only have owned one, and I just bought it in January but… it’s an Ibanez Acoustic and for the life of me I can’t remember the model, and am too lazy to go look at the moment.

I’m rather happy with it though.

I have a few…

Squier Fender Strat - gorgeous bright red
Cort Les Paul copy - flamed maple
Cort Explorer copy with built in effects - black - sweet ride…

Fender F-65 acoustic
cheap old POS acoustic

The guitar I wish I had.

Wow, is that the perfect guitar, or what? You don’t want to know what I would do for that guitar

I want to say in my defense (only 3 guitars - I didn’t count the Sears toys), that I was very lucky to score a Les Paul as my second electric. I bought it 15 years ago, it’s almost 20 years old now, and it has served me well. The frets are worn near flat. I put active pickups in it. It’s heavy, easy to play, and it sounds great through my Marshall AVT150.

I’m curious if some of you with a 20+ guitar history are in bands I might have heard of…

I used to have a beautiful old-style electric guitar, I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called or how old it was… all I know is they stopped importing them here in 1967 and it had a rosewood (if that’s the english name for it…) neck that was just …sublime. It was stolen by a 65 year old, 6-fingered bum called Valli.

At the same time I had a Squire strat-type, the most godawful piece of crap I have ever owned.

At the moment I have a guitar that seems to bear the name “Axstar Crusher”, I have absolutely no idea where it’s from or who manufactures it but it is surprisingly good.

Can you guys recommend a good, cheap strat-type?

I find your dementia intriguing, NoCoolUserName - Do I get some virgins if I join your cult?

Okay, I’ll play - I like a lot of what I’ve seen listed. Ms. Boods - good stuff!

Acoustics:

  1. Yamaha FG-75 - cheapy little 3/4 size I bought in a pawn shop for $64 when I was 15. First guitar.
  2. Japanese knockoff of a Martin D28 herringbone. Good git. Sold
  3. Gibson one-off acoustic. Maple, arched back, flat top. Weird. Sold
  4. Ovation. awful. sold
  5. Taylor 812c - my acoustic baby.
  6. Martin D1 12-string. sold
  7. Baby Taylor

Electrics

  1. Fender Lead 1 - their attempt in the late 70’s for an inexpensive guitar. Completely Frankenstein’d out, a la Van Halen (natch). Rechristened The Beast (before I knew Dick Dale named his Strat that), with Seymour Duncan JB’s in it - from the first batch he made for JB, before it became a standard product in Seymour’s catalogue (I knew him in Santa Barbara).
  2. Charvel, locking bridge/nut superStrat. Sold.
  3. 1955 Gretsch County Club. Basically like Brian Setzer’s Chet Atkins model, except Dark Green pearlescent and no Bigsby tailpiece. Mint Condition - paid $350 bucks for it. Unfortunately, Gretsches show wear if you look at 'em funny, so I couldn’t play for fear of compromising the value. Sold for a very pretty penny.
  4. 1993 Fender Strat Plus - replaced Lace Sensors with Bill Lawrence pickups and a white Mother of Toilet Seat pickguard (two tone burst finish) - plays and sounds amazing. My electric Fender baby.
  5. Gibson Les Paul Special Doublecut - faded cherry, p-90’s, 2003. Love the P-90’s, but this wood is a piece of crap. Will sell eventually and get a P-90 guitar with older tone wood.
  6. Gibson ES-335, 1984 Custom Shop, Vintage Sunburst. The best 335 I ever played (and I have played a ton) but the damn thing was so special I never played it - I “put it on a pedestal”. So I sold it at a profit and bought…
  7. Ibanez AS-50 - 1981, small-boded 335 type. Cherry red with figured maple grain. Plays like a million bucks - at least as good as the 335, but I paid 1/4 of the price so I can thrash it with impunity.
  8. Ibanez Artist - 1982, candy apple red pearl. Amazing Les Paul style, but had a super fast neck, not a chunky one like the '50’s Les Pauls that started the legend. Sold.
  9. Burny, Japanese vintage 1980 replica of a '59 Les Paul 'burst - Honeyburst. My Gibson baby. I have played a '59 'burst (you can read the story about that in another thread) and this plays very similar to that. I have played a ton of '59 Custom Shop Historic reissues that cost $4,000 - $10,000 and this plays at least as good and in many cases better.

I think that is all for now…I need to get a Tele and want a playable version of that Gretsch to have a rockabilly guitar on hand…

Amps:

  1. Seymour Duncan Convertible - #0007, custom made before actual assembly line mfg started. Bought from Seymour. Sold a couple of years ago - wonderful, but weighed 85 lbs.
  2. Mesa Boogie Studio Caliber 25 - amazing amp, 1x12 combo I got used for $250 - I don’t know what Guitar Center was thinkin’.
  3. Cornford Hellcat - one of the best amps on the market today. Small British boutique maker - super high-end.

meow meow - regarding your Boogie, check eBay and chart a few auctions of similar amps to see what they sell for. That’s how I gauge the stuff I sell…
