What kind of guitar do you have?

Inspired by this thread. What kind of guitar do you have?

I have a Takamini classical guitar I bought in 1984. I’m told it’s a good one, but I’m not much of a player so I don’t know. I like it.

I used to have an American-made Fender Stratocaster I bought from a friend when he needed money. (This was before Fender started having guitars made overseas.) It was ‘antique white’ – sort of a pale yellow – with a rosewood fretboard and a white pick guard. He bought it back several years ago. I wanted another one, but the last time I checked American-made Fenders were like $800 and they weren’t offerend in that particular colour. (Squire makes one like it though.)

I like my Takamini just fine though, and I don’t need an amplifier or cords to play it.

Non-descript 70’s Telecaster named "Dusty’ which I love dearly, and a '95 Sunburst Les Paul which I’m not so keen on. An Ibanez acoustic which I hardly touch because it’s an acoustic and whats the point of a guitar of you can’t make a goddawful racket?

Three instruments for me:

I have a Guild acoustic that I plan to keep forever. Great sound, superb action, and it’s not sensitive to humidity or temperature.

A very nice Fender Strat which I’m actually trying to unload because I never play it. Kind of a shame, but I prefer the acoustic.

And I have a Fluke Uke which was the best experimental purchase I’ve ever made. Great sound and loads of fun to play!

Right now, a Fender electric/acoustic single cut a way that I got of a high school friend, a Mitchell acoustic that an ex girlfriend got me, a Sears Silvertone that I got at a garage sale, a Kay acoustic that used to by my moms and a Cheapo Mexican Fender Telecaster that actually rocks the house as far as tone and actions go. I know I lucked out on that last one. I paid my $125 for a guitar that surpasses the American model ones.

an old POS steel string in the closet, a sweet gretsch i bought this year, an a battered classical i kmeep sitting in the living room for whenever the mood strikes, which subsequently gets played the most

I have a Samick acoustic guitar I bought ages ago and it spent most it’s life under my bed and also aquired the name “Dusty” due to it being covered in dust most of the time. I bought a Samick Avion electric guitar and cheapo amp combo a couple years ago and took more lessons. Pure coincidence that they are both Samick guitars. They do the job for just making noise when I’m home alone. I never let anybody hear me play, I’m just too shy about my lack of skill.

I did pick up the electric again last night as I was inspired by the thread linked by Johnny LA. I tend to attain a certain level of proficiency and then put the axe down for months or years again. Maybe this time I’ll stick with it.

Hey, me too! I love it, it’s taken a lot of abuse and still sounds great. When I jam with friends people tend to gravitate to the Samick. It has character!

My electric is an Epiphone Special II. Great looking and great sounding too.

My bass is a Squier P-bass… another axe with character.

After having a soprano uke for about a year, I got an acoustic for Christmas. Both are generic, cheap plywood numbers. The uke plays really well, though, after putting on these magical strings. The acoustic isn’t half bad. At the very least, it looks expensive. Plays all right, but nothing more.

I’ve a cheap black standard electric guitar which hasn’t been tuned in over 2 years. I don’t know the make. I found it in a shop for about $70 and bought it on a whim. I don’t really like it. I never play it. I’m not really sure why I still own it.

I also have a Rogue fretless bass (Black with flatwound black strings - It’s like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.) It’s cheap but after a little tweaking it plays rather well. Good enough for what I need it for.

In the next month or so, after I finish setting up the studio, I’ll be buying one of these. I used to have one and it’s one of the few guitars I really liked playing.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), I’m developing a case of GAS*. I have three acoustic steel-strings: a Yamaha, a Simon & Patrick, and a Martin. I have two electrics: a D’Armand hollow-body, and a Guild Starfire semi-hollow-body.

The Yamaha and Guild are for sale.

They’re left-handed.

*Guitar Acquisition Syndrome.

All solid-body electrics.
Gibson SG Standard (famous for being played by Angus Young, Frank Zappa, and Tommy Iommi (Black Sabbath)).
Yamaha SBG 2000 - probably one of the heaviest guitars in existence but it has nice sustain. Carlos Santana played this guitar in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It is sometimes referred to as the Japanese Les Paul.
Steinberger Spirit - yep that famous headless guitar. (I own the cheapo version of the much more expensive graphite one. Still, it sounds great).
Several foreign made guitars (China, South Korea, etc) that are really fantastic. Anyone play an OLP MM1? That is a fantastic guitar for the money.

Ok, I have pics…

Not pics of mine, but pics like mine. The Fender acoustic and Squier Fender are pretty much exact. The flamed maple Les Paul and Gibson Explorer are (semi-) cheap copies. Cort brand, bought them at Sears. The Explorer copy had effects built in. The Effector. My “Blackie”.

I have three:

a 1970s Yamaha FG-420-L left-handed acoustic, which I play upside down. With new strings, and even with old ones, it sounds great and records beautifully.

My father-in-law has entrusted me with his US-made 1980s Stratocaster, which he will never learn to play. He bought it from a friend of my wife quite some years ago because it was cool, but he isn’t cut out to be a guitarist. So he gave it to me to play. It sounds unreal.

An old co-worker gave me a Vantage bass that someone gave him, and he couldn’t play it, either. So I have a free bass. It has good action and decent pickups for a cheapo. It certainly works, and records well, too. I don’t know if I’d want to go on a stage with it, though, it’d be a bit embarrassing.

I have a Gibson 446s, which is a hollow body guitar, though only slightly bigger than a Les Paul (much lighter though…). Also a Yamaha nylon string guitar which was very cheap, but sounds great. And a Epiphone “Joe Pass” model hollow body guitar–a pretty good instrument for the money, but the pick-ups leave much to be desired.

Yeah, I know the feeling.

I have:

  1. An acoustic with no name on it, no idea who made it. Had it since I was little.
  2. Ibanez beat to hell and back electric guitar - my favorite one to play but it is BUTT UGLY
  3. Bright red Kramer electric guitar, typical 1980’s whammy bar guitar hero type guitar
  4. Eko bass guitar, hollow body violin shaped electric bass (fun to play, a sound technician’s nightmare on stage)
  5. Elektra clone of a Rickenbacker electric bass - not real fond of Elektras in general but this one plays good and looks exactly like the original
  6. Gretch electric guitar

I’ve had all of these for years, with the exception of the Gretch which my father in law gave to me fairly recently. My GAS seems to have moved beyond the acquisition phase, but none of mine are for sale.

So, are we starting a doper band up or what?

My guitar is this Martin. It’s a D-16 GT. The tone is near perfect and it looks amazing! I started out on a Gibson classical 6 string, but I upgraded to the Martin last May.

I’ve got a Korean-made Fender acoustic, which I’ve had for about thirteen years and totally love;

A Rickenbacker 620 (but “sunburst” colored, like this); and

A $35, no-name ukulele that I totally hate and will replace with something better as soon as I have a couple of dollars to rub together.

I haven’t picked up any of them in probably six months, though. Too busy with law school and making movies. :frowning:

A Martin 0001R that I take with me everywhere. I’ve had it since about 2000. It’s been on maybe 5 air planes and to more campfires than I can remember. A fair number of open mics as well.

fishbicycle, I’ve also got a Vantage bass. It’s actually not too shabby. The guy I bought it from had installed some nice active pickups in it as well.

Wow, almost 20 posts in and nobody has mentioned this one yet?
