Would it be possible to set up a sticky listing those who have failed the ultimate test, and a brief reason why they were booted? It would save a lot of bandwidth, as then nobody would start “What happened to…?” threads. It would also shut off the meaningless chatter as people guess, counterguess, and generally annoy the mods. Just askin’…
silenus, I’m not a mod, and I can’t tell you what they think, but that sounds like a good idea in theory, and impossible to implement:
- The Dope has existed for five years (I think; 99 is the earliest registration date I’ve seen).
- There isn’t really any cycle of bannings to judge how many have taken place, but there are probably around a few thousand.
- Estimating very conservatively, let’s say that there have been 500 posters banned total.
- Do you know how long it would take to compile a sticky like that?
Maybe we just hang out in different places, but I’ve seen a couple of 'what happened to…" threads ever, and I’ve been here about as long as you have. I think more bandwidth would be taken up by your idea than by the present system.
Again, I am not a mod, and I’ve no idea what they’ll say, but I don’t think that will work out. It’s a sound idea, just impracticable.
Yeah, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Start it with the switch to pay, and limit it to say 50 items.
00/00/00 name troll
00/00/00 name jerk
etc.
Again, just a suggestion…
Trolls would love to have their name up in lights. Why give them what they want?
Maybe just limit it to non-troll bannings, or posters who had more than 1,500 posts under their belt? (Assuming that they weren’t a troll who posted 1,500+ times on a single day, or something.)
They could also define discussing bannings to be a bannable offense, which would have the same effect and be pretty amusing to watch.
No, such a list is unlikely to ever be made available to the membership.

Since this issue is currently being discussed in another thread, I’ll close this one.
