Stop with the <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally>. A Template.

Next time anyone gets the urge, feel free to cut and paste.

Why is it that everyone on the SDMB insists on including <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> in their posts? It’s not funny anymore, nor was it ever funny to begin with.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen multiple threads with <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> in the title. Or how many times an interesting thread about something I deem relevant gets derailed by a <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> post, which inevitably leads to a bunch of <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> posts in the replies. Why does everyone insist on doing this?

Can we just stop it please? Yes, I know I don’t have to open those <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> threads and I can just ignore those <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> posts, but instead of behaving rationally and doing exactly that I’d rather bring this <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> to everyone’s attention by starting a thread about it, ignoring the irony of same.

Oh, and ha ha to everyone who replies with <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> in their posts.*

*By saying that I am now certain that everyone will be shamed into refraining from including <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> in their replies.

[sub]Not inspired by any thread specifically, more of a general observation about those types of threads that pop up from time to time.[/sub]

What does twee mean?

Pronunciation: 'twE
Function: adjective
Etymology: baby-talk alteration of sweet
chiefly British : affectedly or excessively dainty, delicate, cute, or quaint <such a theme might sound twee or corny – Times Literary Supplement>

Twee is very similar to quaint, but not quite as pleasant as quaint.

Exactly… a derivative of “ne’er the twain shall meet.” ???

The dictionary mentions twee is similar to cute, but that is only true for the Brittish usage of cute, rather than the US usage of cute.
Pwincess Pweshious is extremely twee.

<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Guess not… excuse my little tushy…

Dooku, Ive read your post, and even with the explantions of what twee is I still have no idea of what your ranting about.

Any chance of a link to a post that demonstrates the evil behaviour?

Delly, I mention in the OP I’m not pointing to a specific thread. But I suppose I can give you some examples. Kinds ruins my rapier wit, but oh well.

Someone has a cutesy idea about starting a thread like “The Crow vs. Roy Batty”, which will inspire several dozen similar threads. Or, as happens quite frequently with this board, a certain thread will take on a life of its own due to a humorous and / or weird post, which then inspires that same post to be made in several other threads. (cf. 1920’s Style Death Rays, Og, This post has been graped by the Grapist, Gotcha Ya, tug-ahoy, etc).

My (admittedly mild) rant is about the people who will then start Pit threads along the lines of “Enough of the vs. threads!!!” “Stop with the Death Rays posts!” And so on. These threads will contain nothing but inevitable posts saying “then don’t read them”, or “do you realize that you’re giving it more attention by starting another thread about it?”, followed by several posts that contain the exact behavior that they’re complaining about.* I just grow weary of seeing Pit threads about some insignificant SDMB trend b/c I know how they’re going to go down.

And yes, the fact that I’m bitching about threads that bitch about threads is very clear to me - I just thought I could create this template so I can refer to it the next time one of those threads pops up.
*I agree with those kinds of posts in those kinds of threads wholeheartedly, BTW.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re talking about, but I want you to know that I find <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally>:

  1. completely offensive
  2. the polar opposite of what the SDMB is all about
  3. Hi 1920’s-style Death Ray!

So, they’re 1920’s style “death rays” then…

Would someone, anyone, please explain what the hell this thread is attempting to communicate? It’s like Mad Libs for the retarded!

The closest US approximation of “twee” would be “cutesy” as opposed to “cute” or “quaint” - “twee” specifically refers to cuteness of the irritating, cloyingly sweet brand.

It sounds more like you’re irritated with the cheap absurdist humor/contrived “randomness” that dominates these boards like nothing else. I agree that it’s blindingly irritating, unfunny, and very, very nerdy.

Freejooky, I think the point of the OP is that many people who pen Pit rants about some SDMB posting behavior that they find annoying write their posts exactly the same, and so he’s helpfully created a template for such Pit rants in which one need only replace <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally> with the specific posting behavior being Pitted.

Translation: “I’m bored with the Pit, so you people need to find a new way of saying something sucks.”

(On the other hand, I just now learned what “twee” means, and I’m as mystified as anyone as to what particular twee behaviors have been over-Pitted in the past.)

<twee posting behavior that annoys you personally>

Ow, ow, ow, ow! OK! I’ll quit.

Well, if you’re gonna have the OP template, you need the response template to go with it:

<twee posting behavior that annoys Dooku>

band name

That was my daughter’s first word when she’d babble!
Oh, so now, I understand! :smack:

  • Jinx

waitaminnit, are these 1920’s “style” deat rays you’re talking about???

[Hijack]
Now that you’ve explained “twee” for us Yanks, could you possibly translate the phrase, “po-faced” that I kept running into in Halliwell’s Film Guide?
