Call for help - 4 y.o. aussie needs a home :(

I'm hoping some dopers will have some ideas about this...

A friend of mine has a four year old Aussie who was returned to her (very long story) by a former owner. He badly needs a home where he will be the only male dog and where he will be loved, and appreciated, and played with and cuddled...

Brewster is a showdog. He's a lovely red tri aussie, with personality plus. He's a therapy dog. He has a wonderful temperament. He's outstanding with kids.

Currently, being back "home" in WI has meant that he was living with other dogs and the boys seem to all want to fight with him, all the time. They pick on him, he picks on them... it's just ugly.

It got very ugly yesterday when a full fight broke out in the yard - Brew wound up with five sets of stitches on his face and so his show season is over for this year until the hair grows back and the wounds heal.

Brew doesn't get along with other boys, but he gets along with everyone else. Yesterday's fight wasn't started by him (he wasn't even involved at first) but as tension rose, all the dogs decided it was time for a full out brawl.

Stuff like that happens, when you have a kennel... but Brew needs a home.

He's currently in Wisconsin, and could be shipped out of Chicago if the right home were found. Any help is welcome - his owner would like to avoid going through rescue or a shelter to place him! He deserves soooooo much more...

Brewster is my Zap's daddy.

email me privately at mhboyer at rogers dot com if you think you can help us out...

He gets along GREAT with girls.

He just has his personal space issues with the boys, and only on his own territory.

He needs attention, and lots of it - kinda needy that way.

Hi there,

<<I'm hoping some dopers will have some ideas about this...

Please get ahold of ARPH (http://www.aussierescue.org/) or STAAR [Second Time Around Aussies) (http://www.staar.org/), both dedicated to rescuing Aussies.

If Brewster is not neurtered, he will have to be to be taken in rescue.

The other option is to look at the breeder's pages in the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA.org) to see if you can find a breeder in that area willing to take a fully sexed dog. I do not actually think this is that great an idea as I am all for neutering animals unless they are incredibly superior specimens...waaaay too many aussie in rescue, and even more euthanized every year because of nitwits who think more puppies are better. Grrrr.

My red merle rescue, Chance, was really brutalized by a 2 fully sexed males at his first foster home and spent a lot of time segrgated because of this. He is just a big sweetie and bloomed like you would not believe when he was placed with me and my bossy red bi-color girl, Neilli.

Please let me know how all this turns out....there's just something special about the red ones

I've been talking to Elenfair about it, and if Airman is okay with it, we will be happy to take him. He'll be a solo dog, no other animals, and he'll have a nice backyard, lots of places to walk, and a boy who likes dogs.
