Let’s say I write up a pit thread on how much I hate tiny text. It’s long, well-justified, and gosh darnit, it made people laugh. What’s the first post going to be?
tiny type lol! (jk)
If I type a rant on how much I hate the putz face, what do you think I’m gonna get as my first response?
:wally
This is simply not clever. It’s not cute, it’s expected. You might as well shout ‘band name’; it might just be more clever.
Eh, true. But it’s pretty much like hairballs. You know they’re going to happen, it’s best just to scoop 'em up, dump 'em in the trash, and forget about 'em.
I agree with the OP, this is another thing that is so tired and unclever that it continuously surprises me that people still do it. “Bring Pie”, “My cat smells like cat food”. My, what clever sparkling wit, somebody make room on the Algonquin Round Table.
The line is: “My cat’s breath smells like cat food.”
My cat on the other hand doesn’t have Friskies halitosis. Her breath smells like fresh rain and lilacs. Her farts on the other hand can peel paint off the walls.
I agree with your rant but unfortunately it will only serve as a magnet for the lame responses that you hate. I don’t know why the same few people feel compelled to clog up the board with that shit. Adding a “well, someone had to do it” comment to the bottom doesn’t make it any less lame.
(Counting down until someone replies to me with “well, someone had to do it”.)
It’s almost as if it’s so obvious and un-clever that somebody HAS to do it. The ironic vacuum is just waiting to be filled, like a zit waiting to be popped or a bug waiting to be squashed.
C’mon, sometimes it’s just someone who sees the opportunity, and thinks “everybody else who is cool and respected as a poster has done it, so I should too. I want to belong.”
Or, it’s just some annoying jerk who posts the same shit over and over again.
I say we bitch about something worthwhile, like why people feel the need to quote the entire OP when they’re the very first to respond. WE KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO, OKAY? Other than that, yeah, “ironic responses” aren’t all that damn funny anymore (if they ever were).
Never forget the primary lesson of Maxwell Smart: if you do a bad joke once, it’s not funny. If you do it X times it’s still not funny and its old. If you do it X[sup]10[/sup] it becomes hilarious. To some people. Well, OK, to me.
Y’know what I hate even more? The inevitable “Did you really have to post this thread”, or “You must be really bored/over-sensitive/picky to complain about something so stupid” comment. It just implies the obvious response: “Did you really have to post just to ask if I really had to start this thread?”
