Can I take Zyban (wellbutrin) as an aid to quit smoking while taking Paxil?

I currently take Paxil for depression and I want desperately to quit. (smoking that is)
I’ve taken Zyban in the past and it was fabulous for eliminating irritiblility and depression and curbing the nicotine cravings. I quit smoking for 4 years. But alas, I started back up again and now am almost up to a whole pack a day and I need to quit. I’ve tried cold turkey, nicotine replacement (ie the patch and the gum) doesn’t do it for me. I want to take Zyban again but now I’m afraid that the doc won’t do it since I am on Paxil. (25mg/day currently)
Has anyone been prescribed both? Was it effective? Were there negative side effects to mixing the two?

If you absolutely will not consult with your MD at least talk with the Pharmacist.

I’m afraid this question goes into territory that we explicitly discourage on these boards.

Please consult with a qualified doctor. This is closed.
