The vitriol’s still hot and boiling huh? Christ, he’s deep in your heart. Who would’ve known?
That woman couldn’t even stop talking about him after he was banned. If he’d gotten assistance from the mods with Mehitabel he would’ve never been so upset over Gaudere’s warning. It takes something to make him act like the brainless idiot he was that last week. Not to trash the mods, this. They can’t have their eyes everwhere. I blame the membership. That woman was everywhere with her obsessive posting at him. They should’ve reported her. That would’ve worked. But hey, don’t take that personal Luke. It always showed you’re Aldebaran’s best friend. His friends are mine.
My point was that he could have been simply banned after volunteering to leave, others have been after making such statements and now Rex. Some people seem to think that the Mods were simply out to get him; this suggests otherwise.
I suggest any futher discussion sould be done in some other thread.
Shame. Only ran across the guy posting a couple of times, but his name always raised a smile as being genuinely witty and funny.
Why ask for yourself to be banned, though, rather than just softly and silently vanish away? Is there something about board rules or protocol that I’m missing?
Hopefully germane to the thread: I was under the impression that you could only be banned “by request” if you sent a private e-mail to a mod or admin specifically requesting the same. Is this a change of policy, or a specific response to Rex’s (unusually extreme, mind) case?
I ask because I’ve been under a lot of outside pressure lately (family health issues, a fundraising project, and other assorted strains), and I’ve been thinking about taking an extended break from here. Not that I’d melt down like Rex did, but if I mentioned it in a thread, I wouldn’t want it to be immediately interpreted that I wanted a “ban-by-request.”
I do get condescending vibes from Q.E.D. at times. It seems he has little patience with dumb questions that have been asked again and again in GQ. It’s no way near “junior modding”, but sometimes I want to say “Dude, why do you respond, if it annoys you that much?”
It’s not something I’d ever pit him for, we all have our quirks. But I can see that someone with a thinner skin, who may have clashed with Q.E.D. before, might develop a grudge.
Well, the “by request” tag was a bit facetious, reflecting the “suicide-by-mod” nature of that final post, (and is solely my responsibility as the staff member making the announcement; it should not be construed to reflect the opinions of the rest of the staff, the Chicago Reader, or any of its minions). It is always possible that following that final post Rex never intended to return to post again anyway.
If someone truly wants to take a sabbatical, e-mailing an Administrator is the way to go. (The posting priveleges can be suspended without adding a “BANNED” label under the username. However, that sort of magic is reserved for actual Administrators and not handled by low seniority Moderators such as I.)
Sure I’ll make a thread about it. There’s a world of difference between the name calling and outright insults of Rex Fenestraum and what Aldebaran posted.
Remember, I said in the OP of my thread the mods could ban me if they found reason. Got banned. I mailed them. Aldebaran mailed them. There’s the post of LurkMeister. All thThey took all that into account in their investigation. That’s where good moderating shows.
