Valentine's Day Chocolate may have saved woman's life!

According to the Edmonton Sun, a woman in the moutain town of Nelson, British Columbia, drove off the road into the frigid Kootenary River on Valentine’s Day.

She was stuck in the vehicle, which was immobilized upside-down in five feet of icy water, for two hours before being rescued. Her boyfriend followed the route she had taken, and just noticed the faint tire tracks going off the road and down a 30-foot bank. She was able to breathe due to a small air pocket.

She found a container of Valentine’s Day chocolate, given to her earlier by family; a firefighter who helped rescue her said that he thought the little extra calories might have helped keep her hypothermia from being fatal (although her body temp is mentioned as being 30C).

Giving chocolate to a woman can save a man’s life too!

I’m probably a bad person for thinking this, but I just imagined her thought process as: “Omygod! O my god I’m going to die! Help! I’m trapped! I can’t open the door! Maybe if I can find something to break a window… Ooo chocolate. Mmm.”

Wow! What a story!

As an aside to our American friends, Nelson BC is where the movie Roxanne (starring Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah) was filmed. Beautiful, beautiful little town.

I couldn’t help but think of Homer Simpson’s “OooH!” voice. With the little finger waving motions.
