Five students (memebers of the varsity hockey team at the prestigious Milton (MA) Academy, were expelled, following revelations that they had receieved oral sex from a 15 year old female student. The girl was not expelled.
I think this is blatantly unfair…didn’t no less a moral authority as the President of the USA proclaim that a BJ was “not sex”?
Plus, all of the particiapants were minors, so no sex, no statutory rape, no nothing.
I think it sends a very BAD message to our youth-these acts were:
-totally voluntary
-not coerced in any way
-pleasurable to the participants
Plus, kids today are bombarded with sexual advertsing…afteryou’ve seen Britney Spears gyrating around in a thong, and shopped in A & F for jeans, you’ve pretty much seen everything.
What say you all?I think its time toacknowledge that:
-many 15 year olds are capable of thinking for themselves
-it is unealistic to expect kids wth raging hormons to control themseleves
-and finally, nobody got preganat, so what’s the issue?
Is this the first thread on this? It’s been big news for over a week. (I’m in MA, though, so maybe it’s not nationally known.)
The school is private. They can do what they like. The parents that pony up the money for a school of that quality do so because they want to insulate their kids from such behaviours.
Also, don’t forget that the school knows more about what’s going on than the rest of us. Maybe the boys had behavior problems in the past. There could be circumstances that we don’t know about.
It doesn’t seem like a crime was committed, but the whole thing seems shady to me. The boys ranged in age from 16-18. There were five of them. The girl was only 15. I wonder how consentual it actually was.
I was once a 15-year old male with raging hormones, and I managed to control myself, so I question your assertion that expecting these young men to be able to do the same is “unrealistic.”
That said, if it was completely consentual, I would expect the girl to be disciplined equally with the boys. But like debaser, I’m willing to admit that the school has a better handle on what actually happened than you or I do.
As I heard the rationale on the radio yesterday, the school says that since 5 boys were involved (consecutively in one session was the impression I got), then ipso facto it was not consensual, as the numbers meant there was implicit coercion at the least. Not agreeing, just reporting.
I heard that the locker room, in which the fellatio took place, was accessable via a locked door. The only way you coukld enter was if you had a 4-digit key code. The girl did enter (someone had supplied the code to her), and proceeded with the acts described. My question: she entered the locker room , knowing full well that the boy’s locker room was OFF LIMITS to girls. So how could the boys be accused of coercion? I think the school should have had an adult present, but that’s upto Milto Academy.
Not legally.
But all these guys were over 16 anyway, weren’t they?
I also think there’s something a little disturbing about five boys gang banging an underage girl in a locker room. This isn’t exactly a case of young love.
I don’t know exactly what happened ( other than that the school’s investigation found that the boys “requested and received” oral sex from the girl) , but please explain to me exactly how the fact that she entered the locker room voluntarily in itself means there’s no coercion? If they had asked for and received her all of her money in similar circumstances , would you be certain it was a gift?
According to this site the age of consent in Massachusetts is 16.
So it carries an inherent suggestion of coercion. Five older males surrounding an underage girl and asking for blow jobs is inherently intimidating and coercive (IMO).
And if they were of age and she was not, then what is the issue here?
Dear Penthouse, you’ll never guess what happened to me in the lockerroom…!
I agree this is a private insititution and they can do whatever they want (especially since they probably have rules for this). Doesn’t mean I can’t point and laugh (since it looks like everything was consensual – notice the lack of a t in that word, btw).
According to the Boston Globe article, the age of consent appears to be 16, so it does not appear to be a case of mutual statutory rape. Depending on how the Mass. laws are written, it’s possible that it’s a case of forcible rape. It certainly is sufficient reason for a private school to expel students, if that’s what the school chooses to do.
What, exactly, are the facts of the case? According to the Boston Globe article, the school’s investigation found that the five boys “requested and received oral sex” from the girl, and a school spokeswoman said “’'No school likes to think it’s at the end of its options, [but] the boys should have understood that a five-to-one situation is by definition pressurized and coercive, and you can’t assume there’s anything mutual about it”
Now perhaps the boys didn’t literally form a circle with the girl in the middle, but the situation is inherently intimidating and coercive whether they literally surrounded her, were standing in a group that included her as part of a rough circle, or were standing next to each other and facing her.
The intimidation and coercion comes from the five-on-one situation, not from the precise placement of the bodies. When a five-on-one situation is planned ( and I’m not saying this one was ) the whole point of outnumbering is to eliminate choice on the part of the one.
