What is the largest hotel management company in the world?

I am taking an open book test for Les Clefs d’Or and am allowed to “use all the resources available to me”.

Would you be my resource please?

I think it is Holiday Inn, but could be wrong.

Marriott.

Les Clefs D’Ors is a concierge’s association. How about that? Learn something new every day.

How important are reference skills to a top-notch concierge?

Are you familiar with the use of Google.com ?

Marriott International is correct. I felt a little uneasy about answering a test question, but the cat is out of the bag.

Well for Marriott you have:
Marriott Hotels & Resorts

Renaissance Hotels

Courtyard

Residence Inn

Fairfield Inn

Conference Centers

TownePlace Suites

SpringHill Suites

Vacation Club

For Holiday Inn (InterContinental Hotels Group) you get:
Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts

Holiday Inn Express

Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts

Crowne Plaza

Hotel Indigo

Staybridge Suites

Candlewood Suites

It seems to me like there are probably more hotels under InterContinental than Marriott, but I suspect that Marriott generates more revenue per room overall. (wild assed guess based on what I pay when I travel) so the next question is how are you measuring largest? Number of hotels? Revenue?

Hey, it is open book and I can “use all resources available to me.” You are just another resource, as you should be.

Thank you.

What is the largest hotel management company in the world?

I guest they are asking who manages the most properties.

The concierge thing is about networking to find information and get things done. Not about knowing everything.

Nobody could know everything. Well, maybe one person!

sorry for the double post :smack:

Making yourself proficient with Internet reference would probably be huge time-saver in your profession. Not meaning to come off snarky – just imagine the phone calls you won’t have to make after you’ve become a whiz at Google, Mapquest, etc.

And it’s all pretty quick to learn.

Yes, yes I agree. 90% of the time I do use the net for my info (in fact I am doing it now). I have dozens of bookmarks for the stuff that I will know that I will need. However, sometimes I cannot find what I need in a timely fashion and find the best solution is to ask someone who may know better than I.

Thank you all for your assistance.

A close second must be the French Accor group . This is their web-site

http://www.accor.com/gb/groupe/en_bref/accor_en_bref.asp

As you can see they own over 4000 hotels and have 158,000 associates in 140 countries (whatever that means)

According to this page , it would be the british “InterContinental Hotels Group” .

However, they choose as a reference the number of rooms (which makes sense in this industry). Still according to this page, if you rank them according to the number of hotels, the largest group would be the american “Cendant”.
“Marriott” only comes third for the number of rooms and sixth for the number of hotels.

If someone asks you where you got the answer, just say it was in the “Self-Updating, Dynamic, Interactive Encyclopedia of Universal Knowledge”

Exactly!

Now I have some real tuff questions!

Name the four newest sections of UICH:

a. ???
b. ???
c. ???
d. ???

hint UICH stands for Union Internationale des Concierge d’Hotel “Les Clefs d’Or”

and
15. List six (USA) states that do not have Les Clefs d’Or members:
a. ???
b. ???
c. ???
d. ???
e. ???
f. ???

Hey, where can I find this stuff?

Oh, and so Marriott is not the biggest?

I think I going with my first guest Holiday Inn.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

What’s your definition of “hotel management company”? Holiday Inn is apparently a chain, not a company…

:smack:
I guess you did not read posts 5, 7, and 13.
Holiday Inn is part of InterContinental Hotels (posts 5 and 7)
InterContinental Hotels has the most rooms (post 13)
But you still have not answered the question I posed in posts 5 & 7. What measure are you using to determine largest? # of rooms? # of Hotels? revenue?

And as I should hope you are aware, but it appears that you are not, Holiday Inn is a brand, not a management company. So Holiday Inn is a wrong answer anyway you look at it. InterContinenal Hotels, the management company that runs HI, could be the right answer depending on what measure you use to determine largest.

OK, Rick…I did not make the question up. I am just trying to answer it if possible.

Here it is.

What is the largest hotel management company in the world?
a. Starwood
b. Hilton
c. Monarch
d. Holiday Inn
e. Marriott

I have 5 choices provided on the exam to select from as you can now see. I do not have a choice of “none of the above” or “other”. Now perhaps the question is flawed. I do not know for sure. With this new and exciting information, what say you?

a, b, c, d or e.?

What is the largest hotel management company in the world?

Maybe that means the one with the largest pants or maybe that means the most properties managed. I am not sure.
