Ask the Canadian Teenager...

I find these “Ask the ____” threads interesting and I’m really bored, so I decided to start one myself.

Being one of the few teenage Dopers around here, I’m sure your minds are positively teeming with questions about our puberescent minds. So, if you’ve got a question about today’s teen culture, Canada (or maybe both), or just about me in general, then, ask away, I suppose…

I really need to go outside and look at the sun.

Love or hate Sum 41?

Do you canoe?

I love 'em.

No, I’ve only tried it once.

What’s up with the redundancy in your location field?

Okay, okay, serious teenage-specific question:

Since cell-phones have pretty much always been ubiquitous items in your experience, do you find their use in public places (such as on the bus) annoying or does it seem normal to you?

Do you feel that your experience as a teenager differs greatly from the experience of a teenager from the US? If so, how?

What TV shows did you watch growing up?

In places such as the mall or the bus, where it’s busy and crowded and everyone’s minding their own business, I find it normal to see people using their cell phones. What does annoy me is if they’re screaming into their phone and/or they’re using their cell phone in the movie theatre.

Well, I don’t think there’s a huge gap between Canadian and American teenagers. I think the only differences we really have are prominent cultural differences (ex. In Canada, we have the RCMP, the CSIS, the British monarchy, etc.) and what we learn in school.

As for TV shows, I remember watching Barney, Sailor Moon, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes (a Canadian production), and Rugrats as a kid.

Canadian teenager? Hmmmm…

Ah! How do you write “eh?” in 1337?
Okay, more serious… What is the mix of your broasdcast television programming re local content, US content, British, other?

The majority of the shows I watch are American and a very small percentage is Canadian. Honestly, I don’t like a lot of Canadian-produced shows because they just seem to suck big-time. Of course, the news is all local content (CBC, CityTV, etc.) I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything British, other than the Harry Potter movies, on TV.

As for writing “eh?” in 1337, you could type it as 3|-|? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, I should add that we have a channel called Omni, which is a multicultural channel. They sometimes show foreign movies, usually Bollywood and French films, and they also have a Chinese news show. But, the news show is all about local news. My Chinese friends also have channels where they can watch Chinese soap operas/shows that are originally from Hong Kong.

What radio station do you listen to the most? Why have you only been in a canoe once? That’s a travesty!

Lest we forget socialism, higher quality of education, longer life spans, and whatever else regular Canucks experience compared to their American brethen.

Also, us in the US have the State Song, more celebrities to oggle (although you probably get your share of imports), and more choices for higher education (it seems, atleast). Some how I would think those would be good things, but they really aren’t.

Question: if you are aware of American fasion trends, do they ever make it up there?

_dare_devil007, if you need any backup, Gadfly and I will be happy to help out

I was just about to hop in and say that. I think three Canadian teenagers could probably provide a wider view of Canadian teenagerdom than just one Canadian teenager, despite how great a Canadian teenager Daredevil is.

We also need an abbreviation for that. Let’s refer to them as CTs from now on.

what do you want to be when you grow up?

(I’m always looking for ideas)

A professor. Or an editor, or a translator. Something to do with books.

I feel bad about answering now, it really is _dare_devil007’s thread :frowning:

MrFantsyPants, during the few times I listen to the radio, I listen to the station with Mad Dog and Billie. I forget what the station is called.

ZebraShaSha, thanks for reminding me about Canadian socialism. But, I have no idea if American fashion trends ever make it into Canada. Do you mean fashion trends started by celebrities? They most likely do because well, the majority of celebrities that we know are American.

carlotta, when I grow up, I want to be an actress, a crime scene investigator, a high school math teacher, a psychiatrist or a world traveller. I haven’t decided yet, although acting has been my lifelong pursuit so far.

Kythereia and Gadfly, come and join me. The more, the merrier.

dare_devil007_, do you know Ralph, Deb, or Russ from Canada?

ducks and runs

:dubious: Um…I know two girls named Deb. I don’t know a Russ or a Ralph. Sorry!
