Colorado critters

I've had a truly crap-tastic week (but that's another thread entirely.... *sigh*).

But taking a few moments to slack off from work and go through some of the critter pictures we took at Rocky Mountain National Park a few days ago...took some of the "grrrr" out of my day. Just felt the need to share them.

Moose & Baby

Marmot (I think he looks like a Murphy, don't you? Yep...Murphy the Marmot)

Chipmunks

Awww...you live in the woodsy part. I used to live near Pueblo, the deserty part. We got lots of rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and elk. No moose, unfortunately.

Cute pics!

Very nice.

ladyfoxfyre, I lived in Pueblo for 6 years., and I lived in the mountains for about the same.

The mountains were better, but Pueblo was actually a fun place to live.

I honestly didn't realize there were any moose left in Colorado. We used to live in Grand Junction (no moose there) but have used La Veta as a vacation hub for 34 years and in all that time and all those drives around the state have never seen a moose. Lots in Montana, B.C., the Yukon and Alaska, but never Colorado.

Didn't we import the moose a few years ago? I am so glad. I just love them.
Lovely pics.

As a Denverite, I just wanted to report that coyotes have been sighted here in central Denver, and a fox follows me and my dogs daily during our early morning walks. I don't think she's looking for breakfast, my dogs are several times her size. I think she's just curious.

What is the name of those little animals that scurry around on the rocks in the mountains. Not ground squirrels. They were something I've never seen anywhere else. Something like a wild guinea pig.

Kudos to you for getting a picture of chipmunks which doesn't show the value of protective coloration... I've got a bunch of pictures of trees and bushes where I could swear there were chipmunks when I took the picture...

The other day before I finally signed on there was someone talking about living near the divide. Was that you?
My dad lives in Georgetown and I think thats about as close to the tunnel as you can get
I used to live on the other side in Dillon

You want moose, go to Newfoundland, particularly the northern quarter. There's an estimated quarter million of 'em on the island.

Those would be the marmots, I do believe. There is a place in Rocky Mountain National Park where you can see tons of them, lounging around on the warm rocks, sunning their little marmot selves.

Barrels , I live a bit more west and north...Fort Collins, to be exact.

I just feel so lucky to live here. Such a beautiful place, so much to see and do, and all kinds of interesting wildlife. Everyday, you see something new

Those animals might also be pikas, which are related to rabbits and eat piles of grass that they dry.

I'll see if I can find a site with a slightly better picture.

I'm pretty sure there weren't any there when I lived in Boulder in the 1970s. I would love to see a moose in Rocky Mountain National Park.
