Most Mundane Poll: What's Your Navel / Mid-Section Placement Ratio (Ruler Required)

Subtitled: "There is nothing so agonizing to the fine skin of vanity as the application of a rough truth"

As promised: The most mundane poll you'll probably ever see.

A Little Background:
At a pool party I hosted this weekend, my hypercritical co-workers informed me I have a misplaced navel. Seeing that this was the first time most of us have seen each other out of street clothes, the insults and comments that usually highlight our work day took an entirely new direction. Not only were there snarks about one-another's nationalities, (lack of) intelligence, strange habits, quality of work and the like; now there was a whole host of new material to work with. I had no problem with barbs at other people; like "Lenny's got more hair on his back than he has on his entire head" or "Little Joe, those are the ugliest feet I have ever seen on human being" - but when they turned their attention toward me, I heard something no one has ever pointed out before: "Buck, if your belly button was any higher, you'd have a dimple on your chin!".

I laughed it off, didn't give it much thought until I showered late that evening. As I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror, I came to realize my critical, fellow employees were on to something; my navel is comparatively too high on my midsection. Unless my perception is being skewed by paranoia, my belly button should be a few inches lower than it is. With no internet resources to work with, I devised a navel midsection ratio.

The Test
Thus far, I’ve gotten results from 4 people whom I felt comfortable enough to ask - and so far the data seems to confirm my fears. By first taking an accurate measurement from the nipple height to the center of the navel and then from the navel down to the top of the reproductive organs, the ratio I came up with is 11:9 inches. Now I need additional comparative data. All you need to provide your ratio is the following:
  • A ruler or tape measure
  • A moment of privacy
  • The nerve to take two quick measurements
  • The ability to post your results to this poll thread
Once again, the first number is the distance from the height of your nipples to the center of your navel – and the second measurement is the distance from your navel to the top of your genitals. I assume, provided mid-age sagging hasn’t yet taken place, the ratio should be about the same between males and females.

So help me out here, other than the 4 measurements I currently have for comparison, what’s your navel midsection ratio?

Reference to the golden ratio got me thinking, what are the navel/midsection ratios of Michelangelo's David statue & DaVinci's Vitruvian Man.

Assuming David was 5'9" tall, his ratio would be approximately 9:5.25 inches.
Assigning the same height to the Vitruvian Man, he comes in at 10.25:5.25 inches.

Taking the statue of David (1.71), Vitruvian Man (1.95), Hung Mung (1.44), Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy (1.43) and the other 4 samples I've received (which average 1.51), my worst fears have been realized: my 1.22 figure is way below normal. I guess the respective height of my navel not only looks odd, it could mean I more guts than I do heart.

Are you also taking into account the age/health/quality of bras of the ladies (if there were any) that you asked? The ravages of time and gravity can skew your results, due to once proud "headlights" that point more downwards than they once did.
