What was the story with Prince and Mayte's baby?

The official story, IIRC, was that it was severely malformed and died shortly after birth. Some websites I looked at some time ago hinted at something darker. Does anybody here know?

You stated what I have heard. I know there was some confusion because of precautions they had taken to avoid media attention, but suspect that any further conspiracy-theory gossip is just due to the perception that Prince is quirky.

I would just as soon avoid the topic out of respect for them and focus on Prince the musician, whom I respect profoundly.

And Prince the maker of the greatest movie of all time: Purple Rain.

. . . What? You don't think Purple Rain is great? C'mon! It's awesome!

From the bits that I gathered from EW and a newspaper account, the baby was born with birth defects and died soon after.

As a recent resident of the Twin Cities, I'd like to report that, according to everyone I know who has had any contact with him, Prince is well beyond quirky. He ranges from rude to bizarre.

That said, his family tragedy is not really something the rest of us need to know about. The poor child died, which is bad enough for any parent, without weird speculation on God knows what you were insinuating.

Also, just as an aside, an an example of quirky, Prince lets people come sit in his living room when he's in the mood. Friday at midnight, if he wants, he'll open the doors and any devoted fans who are sitting outside (and there're always a few) can come in, drink soft drinks, eat peanuts, and listen to Prince and his band jam, practice, and make music. I know a couple people who have done this, and they say the man is a guitar god.

I hear he plays basketball really well too, and then makes pancakes for everyone.

Oh, my. Looks like I'm moving to a much colder climate very soon. I've also read that as a Jehova's Witness, Prince sometimes goes to strangers' houses to witness (or whatever they call it). I would die, albeit a very happy woman. Everyone knows that he is my soul mate. Well, everyone except him. For now, that is.

Thanks, Mr. Blue Sky. That's all I was interested in - not in some sort of gossipmongering. I'm a tremendous fan of Prince, since the Controversy days, and was merely curious.

Poor thing! I believe this is what happened to the baby of the managing partner of a previous firm where I worked. That child, too, died a day or two after birth. How heart-breaking!

This blows my mind. He's the last artist I'd expect to do this sort of thing, and if it's true, it completely makes up for the rude and bizarre side of his personality. If I were a few years younger, I might make the trip up there to participate. I hope he and his staff are careful, though - remember John Lennon.
