Candid photos taken in my woods! Animalistic behavior!

Behind stately Mercotan Manor lay the fallow fields of Mercota, plus the 40 aker xmex-like woods. One of my kinsmen, an avid bowhunter and outdoorsman, set up a remote camera, triggered by motion, out in my woods, to capture the local wildlife. Having captured them, he emailed the photos to me.

I was rather disappointed that the local wildlife pictures were all actually of local wildlife (tho relieved that Mrs. Mercotan and I did not appear in the pics, because said kinsman didn’t tell us about the camera thingy right away), but I was also quite pleased with the abundance of local fauna captured in the photos.

Photos:

  1. Hey, it’s a deer!
  2. Either a fox or a wallaby, but given our location, the smart money is on “fox”.
  3. Hey, two deer!
  4. Awwwww…mommy and baby deer!
  5. Nice starter rack on that buck
  6. It’s that damn cat that’s been hanging around.
  7. Now that damn cat is getting closer.
  8. Where the hell did the cat go?
  9. AUUUUGGGGHHHHHHHH!
  10. [sub]stupid cat[/sub]
  11. Now that’s a nice rack too!
  12. Is that deer in the front wearing glasses??

Hope you enjoy! And thanks, Mercodaughter!

Those were great. The cat’s funny and I think that one deer is wearing glasses!
Thanks for sharing and that’s a beautiful estate you’ve got there.

Cool pix!

You ought to go for the exotic stuff, though: Put out some hippo chow. Maybe some giraffe kibble. At least some lemur pellets.

Oh man, you don’t know how much I wish I had a spot of land where I could put up a camera like this!! In our local outdoor magazine (GON = Georgia Outdoor News), the “Caught on Camera” shots have always been some of my favorites.

They edit out the cat pictures, though.

Looking at those yes, I think those deer are C.H.U.D.

The cat’s a star!

Fox. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve seen one of those walking down my sidewalk as if out for a neighborhood stroll. On a busy morning when plenty of humans were walking down same sidewalk, only to step off and give it “wtf?” looks as it sauntered past.

Oh, and that deer? Obviously wearing night-vision goggles. Beware, they’re planning something!

I tried to get hippo chow, but noone nearby seems to carry it, and the nearest zoo isn’t selling any.

Thinking of putting the cam in my front yard, pointing it at Lake Michigan, and seeing if I can attract any whales.

Do whales eat deer? Or feral cats?

If you prepare a deer with feral cat stuffing, you should at least be able to attract a Lake Monster.

There are NO whales in Lake Michigan. (The lock tenders won’t let them through the Welland.)

OTOH, I would not be at all surprised to discover the occasional kraken out there.

As a child, I was convinced I spotted Moby Dick out past second sandbar one summer afternoon.

Turns out it was my uncle, Bim the Mercotan.

I’ve heard Nessie vacations in Lake Michigan.

She’s a big fan of Mexican soap operas -who would have thought?

Cats are such camera whores.

What are the details of that camera? I wouldn’t mind setting up one of those to get some snapshots of some of the local wildlife.

I didn’t read the picture titles in the post, just clicked on the link straightaway. Oh, the cat was funny!

Thanks for a big Sunday night grin.

(We have deer in our yard and woods behind, too. But my camera is not motion-triggered and likes to include shots of my thumb.)

I think the cat has spotted the camera.

I’d like to know as well.

I’ll try to find out more about the camera.

My fox stories:

I was at a company golf outing, and for a few holes we watched a fox wander the course. At the 14th hole, he broke into a run, chased a squirell around a tree, and promply caught his lunch. An amazing site, even if that particular fox was a nasty looking thing.

Having a fox run over the top of the hill you’re sitting on (I was downslope, hunting), and running about 3 feet to your right and running away from you, is a right frightening thing.

On the deer being “up to something:”

I’m certain they intercept my e-mail, and are very aware of the hunting seasons. While moose hunting, I had a nice 8 point buck stand 15yds away, staring at me. Nothing I could do, it was not firearms season, and all I had with me was a .30-06. I knew I should have brought my bow with me that day! I’m also certain he was a scout for the moose. I found no moose on that trip.

ya think?

the kitty close up was great. I live in suburbia so no chance of any deer/giraffe/whale sightings. But setting up a camera like that to catch the street cat activity might be fun. At one point we had street bunnies, too (Don’t tell Anya).
