This topic is coming from several almost concurrent sources.
Have any of you seen the short movie/music video decribed here?
One of the sources prompting this thread is the news story at Yahoo! here with the title “Humor, Violence Rule Super Bowl Ads” and including this critical paragraph:
“In a spot that was reminiscent of the classic short film “Bambi Meets Godzilla,” a hapless caveman is squished under the foot of a giant dinosaur, a final insult after being fired for not using FedEx to deliver an important parcel. Never mind that FedEx hasn’t been invented yet.”
Another less obvious source is the thread in GQ with the tantalizing title I need to back up the internet.
The connection between the diverse sources is that a couple I know had just acquired their Beta Max VCR at about the same time that MTV was assaulting the airwaves (or cable waves) with round-the-clock music videos, and they decided it would be good for them to record EVERY video for their own collection, which they proceeded to attempt. Among their collection was the aforementioned Bambi/Godzilla classic and the item in this thread’s title.
Assuming the data in the link is accurate, and I have no need to doubt it, this would put my first viewing of the title video to be within a few years of its being released.
In case the name Tony Powers doesn’t ring a bell for you, maybe checking out his IMDB page might strike a nerve. The Goodfellas role was the first one to make me say to myself and whoever else was present, “Wow. That’s the dude that made “Don’t Nobody Move (This is a Heist).””
The only other performer I can recall from the video is Treat Williams. But I do seem to remember other well-known (at the time) faces, too.
Anybody have any idea what I’m talking about?
