Perfume after surgery

When a mother gives birth or when someone undergoes surgery, people who are wearing perfume are not allowed to visit him - or else he will get inflammations.
Is that true? Does smelling perfumes have any effect on people who have had surgeries?

Some hospitals discourage visitors and staff from wearing strong scents, only because, when someone is ill, strong scents can nauseate them, especially after surgery.
Light perfumes are usually no problem.
There is no other reason.
