The 2006 World Series of Poker Dopefest at Las Vegas!!! (July 27-30th)

Why you ask? Because we have a fellow Doper Aholibah who is IN the 2006 World Series of Poker! Calling all railbirds! Calling all railbirds! Let’s give our Sister Doper some support when she hits the tables at the Rio. The first round starts July 27-31st, and she will be assigned one of those days to start her quest for the braclet. Aholibah will find out which particular day she’ll start and hopefully it will be one of the first 2 or 3 days.

Although the WSOP is at the Rio, we will be staying at the Monte Carlo which is just on the other side of the freeway. I plan to arrive there about 12pm Friday and stay till mid-afternoon Sunday. Also, this is my birthday trip, so I will be hitting the tables myself to earn the poker room rates that I will get from the MC when Aholi isn’t playing. You can get a standard room for $130 a night (when you reserve through the poker room). You do have to play 5 hours of poker for each night’s stay which saves $60 per night. If you get two people staying in the same room, both players times at the tables count towards the room’s discount rate, so 2 people can stay for as low as $65 a night at the MC which is a pretty decent hotel. Here is some info regarding the Monte Carlo and their poker room courtesy of All Vegas Poker. Also, they rank the casinos poker rooms, which might mean we may not necessarily spend all our time at the MC or Rio. We can discuss that here. Some of the more popular hotels draw more fish than others, so Bally’s, Treasure Island, Paris and a few others might be places to hit as well.

Anybody interested?

Other notes: Aholi, feel free to post your updates here and if you wish, you can blog (or link to your blog) about anything and everything relating to the preparation, plans, your play and even the tournament itself. Also, IF there are any other Dopers who are in ANY of the WSOP events, post here as well, we would love to hear from you as well and even root for you if you are playing on those days that we are there. Since I am driving to Las Vegas, I will probably be the Doper taxi for anyone needing a ride from/to the airport and MC hotel (within reason of course!)…all I ask is that you repect my raise on the table.

Duke…I think we can work out some room arrangements, see you Thursday.

Also, let me invite you back over to our SDMB WSOP that we have every Thursday night at 10pm Eastern, 7 Pacific…over on this thread. You can join us anytime (we are on Pokertropolis) and we play for bragging rights and the stakes are minimal and affordable. Our gang is pretty good competition for anyone looking to sharpen some poker skills and we also enjoy having new Dopers joining in on the fun. We have rankings that reset each quarter and the new (3rd) quarter starts in July. See you there!

More updates to follow…

I am playing in it again this year too, I won the 2005 Bodog WSOP team alumni freeroll, so I’m playing for Bodog. Has she registered yet? I got my start date two weeks ago, if she is registered ,she should already have it. I start day 1B(July 29th).

Congrats on winning another entry, Capa84. I’ll give you support as well if we meet up. Do you know where you are staying? How’d you do last year? Is your name Phil or Daniel, or maybe Annie?

Aholi, what about it…what day do you start?

Just a bump to Yeti’s thread to say I’ll be there from Friday until Sunday. Aholibah plays Saturday as well, so we can cheer her and Capa84 on.

I happen to live in Vegas, and I’d be happy to stop by and cheer. I do work on Thurs-Sunday, so I’ll have to work out some time, but count me in.

I hope some more of the local Dopers can make it, too. Friday afternoon/evening looks to be a good possibility, but we have to play a few hours of poker in there someplace to get the reduced room rate. Hopefully Aholibah and Capa84 will both spend all day Saturday at the Rio, not sure when that will wrap up.

Yeti is our guide, I’m just along for the ride.

Ok!

Both Aholibah and Capa84 will start their quest on Saturday, July 29th at 11:00 am. Hopefully, not head to head against each other so soon though!

Aholi, Duke and I will be at the Monte Carlo, Dag Otto will be at Bally’s and I forgot (or didn’t ask) where Capa was staying. Dag knows a really good Thai restaurant in Vegas, so that will be worked into the schedule…probably Friday night, so we could make a Dopefest out of it, any other Dopers are more than welcome, gamblers or not.

Kinoons, glad you can join us! (work schedule permitting of course, <cough> <cough>)…

Vegas area doper checking in. I would love to meet you all somewhere on Friday night. I have to work Saturday and Sunday but I get off at 9:30 pm and work a couple miles from the strip so after work is cool as well.

My email is in my profile.

Yay! The more the merrier, I say!

I’ll see what I can do, I have to work each night from 1815 until 0615, so maybe an early afternoon cheering.

Aw. Some day someone’s gonna have to do a Northern California/Nevada dopefest. I live in Nevada (a huge state, btw) about 8 hours from Vegas. Unfortunately, I have to work most of the days of the World Series. So - Good luck everyone! And have fun, everyone else!

I’m excited, and I’m not even playing. Looks like it’s been 3 years since I went to Vegas, I used to make it a couple of times a year. I know there are some other Vegas dopers, hope they decide to join in.

Another Vegas resident offering to come watch and cheer!

Email is in profile…let me know when and where and, uh, the (real) name of the person I should be cheering for.

That’s great, DMark! Glad you, kinoons and sleestak can come hang with us. This is shaping up to be a pretty good sized crowd.

Time to start assigning responsibilities. As I see it, there are at least 3 areas that need to be addressed:
(1) Personal needs: transportation, food during breaks (I understand it can be a hassle), food/drinks during play, laundry (we all know that Aholibah is going to be there for days), and, uh, whatever else falls in this category.
(2) Opponent research: Should be self-explanatory, see the PokerStars blog by Bernard Lee.
(3) Communications: A blog site would be great; phone calls to family and friends every hour or so seems like the least that should happen.

So, who wants what job?

Another Las Vegas Doper Checking in…

Hi Yeticus! DMark!

Let me know when and where. E-mail me and let me know. I’d love to come and hang out.

Well, I could possibly handle some transportation. Maybe. It would depend on the time. I have to work Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 9:30. I am off on Thursdays and Fridays. It is also possible that my sister is coming in town that weekend. I will know more tomorrow.

Hey, I don’t mind running for food and drinks and I actually do help with my family’s laundry, but I think Aholibah may have issues with a guy laundering her unmentionables…

I have no problem running her to and from the Rio, but I understand that she knows that there is a shuttle to get her to the Rio, and I can help getting her back. I’m not sure what vehicle I am bringing yet, but it will able to handle at least 7 Dopers total.

I don’t have a laptop, so I’m useless in the Blog Dept. unless Aholi is bringing her own…but maybe she wants to do the blogging.

I don’t want to be the opponent researcher, that job sounds too dangerous.

And I am also going to Star Nursery to pick up 1000’ of 10 gauge low voltage wire at better than half price, which is worth the trip in of itself…you know…Bizniz. I’ll try to squeeze that in before or after Duke arrival at the airport.

Hey LVgeogeek, DMark and Sleestak…glad to hear that you’ll join up with us! Maybe a private poker party is in the plans…I’ll bring the chips with me just in case.

Sorry to hear that Tasha…Carson City and the surrounding area is a very nice place to visit…anyplace on or near the 395 is worth visiting, especially the stretch from Bishop to Carson City…I frequent Mammoth and June Lake often and try to work a drive into Tahoe and Yosemite or Bodie when I can.

Not a Vegas Doper and not a poker player, but the Doorses will be in Vegas that weekend and would love to tag along.
