How do you deposit money for on-line poker?

Just in case these on-line poker sites cannot take my US based credit card, how do you all deposit money to play on-line? I looked at Pokerroom.com and it seems that I have to give them my bank info, and my SSN. I don’t really want to do that. Can’t I paypal my way through? I like Pokerroom because it’s web based. Does anyone know of anything similar?

I would suggest using Neteller. It is very similar to PayPal, but PayPal does not work on any gambling sites that I know.

Just FYI, due to the recently passed bill in congress, it might be in your best interest to not do anything just yet. Wait a little while and see what the ramifications might be after Bush signs it into law.

But more on topic, I feel I should tell you that I always had nothing but trouble when I tried. When I initially signed up (I used PacificPoker,) I deposited just fine. However, I was never able to make another deposit. Every method I tried (my debit card, credit card, and direct bank deduction, and trying to sign up for Netteller,) never worked, they kept getting denied for some reason. I’m not sure if it was my bank that was messed up, or ther systems.

Isn’t/Wasn’t Neteller supposed to have a press release on how (they think) the latest legislation would affect them?

On the one hand, it seems like a stupid-easy workaround the legislation (as I’ve heard it described), on the other hand, it seems like it isn’t exactly a violation of the legislation, as I understand it.

WRT the OP, the most common way (IME) is to actually give them your bank account info and SSN, or a service like Neteller. You won’t ever be able to use PayPal because the new legislation will make it illegal for them to facilitate online gambling, and also because the online casinos never liked them anyway. (Probably due in no small part to their wishy-washy, whimsical dispute policies.)

I’ve used Neteller exclusively, with no problem.

It was released yesterday; you can find it here (top of the page, “US Congress Passes Safe Port Act”).

When Bush signs the new law, will threads of this topic fall under the same umbrella as threads about filesharing and manufacturing drugs?

I can understand being wary about giving Neteller your bank info, but I and thousands of others have done it without incident for many years. If you do want to be extra careful, though, just create a separate checking or savings account solely with money for transferring to and from Neteller. This should be trivial to set up with any major financial institution, though you might have to lock up some more money in a minimum balance or something. Think of it as the price of peace of mind.

Good question.
