Help me start an LLC in Illinois

I am trying to start an LLC for graphic design work in the Chicago area of Illinois. I have had experience creating an LLC in the past, but that was in Colorado. What steps do I need to take in order to start an LLC in Illinois?
Can you point me in the right direction??

Thanks dopers! Free graphic designs for all dopers!*

Start with googling for "setup Illinois LLC " and variations thereof till you hit the right department.
For example one result is:
Illinois LLC

So, realistically, to get an LLC off the ground, how much money am I looking to invest?

Here is a link to the forms page for the Illinois Secretary of State. That should get you started.

This is not legal advice, I am not your attorney. You are not my client. You may wish to speak to an attorney about these matters.

That all depends. You'll have to pay the filing fee with the Illinois Secretary of State (which I'm not immediately finding on a search of their website) plus any business taxes for the state, city, and/or county in which your LLC will be operating. (In my home county, the fees vary by type of business the LLC will be conducting.)

You may also, if you're planning to work from home, need to get a special waiver or permit for such, and of course if you have CC&Rs to make sure you comply with those.

This has some information on an LLC vs. other types of business entity, and this link appears to offer some recent filing information.

Good luck!

The form says the filing fee is $500: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/pu...ions/llc55.pdf

Here is a good source of general info about starting a business: http://www.nolo.com/resource.cfm/cat...09A4EE3F5/111/
