And this brings up another - if a thread is too old for your answers to be “edited” is it automatically considered a necro thread, not to be bumped, updated, etc (usual exclusions apply of just linking necro threads in a new thread) …
You have a rule/explaination, delimited as 12 (the number after 11, but before 12.000000000000000000000000001).
It says ‘why can’t we edit our posts’ and goes on for a bit about flame wars and he said she said crap ya’ll didn’t want to deal with.
Is self edit a test? Permanent? Something to bog the server down with until another mod or admin melts down in a pile of pixels?
If it is permanent, are you going to edit that rule\post?
Does this new ability to edit for a certain amount of time also act as a rule of thumb for necro post bumping?

We had the rule of “no editing” because of what was said in the explanation: see Rules for Posting at the Straight Dope Message Board and note post #12. Plus, it put too much strain on our already over-taxed old server(s).
The question came up every so often for discussion. There was a thread two weeks ago about this: Is there any way to edit or remove your own post? - About This Message Board - Straight Dope Message Board At that time, we were considering a trial of editing with the new server, but didn’t dare say anything because folks get all upset if they hear what we think might happen.
So, we’re on a trial basis. We do listen to you. If it works out, we’ll revise the rules, but I don’t want to go to that much trouble if it lasts a week and then vanishes from abuse.
