Really frivolous rant

Put into Cafe Society because it's about a library, which is a place for books.

And which really ought to be a place dedicated to scholarship, or at least tolerant of scholarship. Specifically, I mean correct spelling.

I am a pro. My job is to catch typos and fix them, catch bad grammar and fix it, catch misspelled words and fix them.

My local library branch of the Denver Public Library is the Virginia Village Branch. All books regularly shelved in this branch are identified by a one-word sticker on the front.

VILAGE.

Come on, come on! Wasn't there room on the sticker for another L? It is, after all, a really skinny letter.

This drives me nuts. But when I've bitched about it, the librarians just laugh at me.

Damn. I need a hug. No, wait, I don't. I need a mojito.

Pour one for me, too. Maybe it's because I was a spelling champion in grammar school, but bad spelling irritates the living poo out of me! And nowadays, it's everywhere ! Ads, newspapers, TV--now at a library!

What one of the librarians told me is, the word on the sticker is an abbreviation. Not a misspelling.

I could maybe buy this if they'd used VLG. Or VVI, which is the abbreviation they use on the website. But to leave out just one letter? Stupd.
