NPR interviews Mike Rotch

Fun, isn’t it? Ok, now for the explanation.

I was listening to NPR in the car yesterday and nearly had to pull over when I heard this story about a cheating scandal at a New Hampshire high school. The issue is divisive, and apparently it was difficult to find anyone in town to speak to.

In front of the high school where the so-called Notorious Nine allegedly stole the exams, some students try to foil a reporter’s interview by shrieking and throwing bottles.

Other kids try the same thing, using an electric guitar and portable amplifier while trailing a reporter as if a mariachi.

Luckily, amidst all the chaos, one young man was responsible enough to go on record and give the real story.

Mike Rotch, a junior, said the students deserve to be punished by their principal rather than a prosecutor.

“I think they are coming down hard. I mean, cheating is bad, but it’s not like it’s unheard of anywhere in America,” he said.

Evidently Mr. Rotch’s associates Hugh Jass and Heywood Jablome were unavailable for comment.
