Match Game getting remade

I must admit, I love watching Match Game reruns on the Game Show Network. In fact, not too long ago I mentioned that this show should be remade. Make the questions more contemporary, have a group of drinking celebs hanging out - who wouldn't watch that?

Well...be careful what you wish for.

So what about casting? Host? Who would be the new Bret Sommers? Richard Dawson? Charles Nelson Riley? Ditzy blonde recurring panelist?

From your link:

I hope they get Tom Bergeron to host -- he was great on Hollywood Squares, and can definitely roll with the punches.

Actually, there are a few Hollywood Squares alums who might be good on The Match Game -- like (no, I'm serious) Gilbert Gottfried.

A new jobs for those people who show up commenting on VH1 "I love the 80s!" or "50 most special very special episodes" kind of shows.

I nominate Laura Kightlinger as the new Brett Sommers "Well Tom...I said @$#%"

Mo Rocca could be on the top tier in Charles Nelson Reilly's old seat.

I don't think it could work. Most of the fun was how suggestive a lot of the questions (is that the right term?) were and how you couldn't actually say what you were thinking to answer them. These days, you could get away with saying a lot more stuff. It would take a lot of the fun out of it.

This is IMO. I love the old reruns.

I used to watch the '90s syndicated version of The Match Game. If Judy Tenuta ain't doing anything, they've got to bring her back.

For the Brett Chair, Brett Butler.

For the Charles Nelson Reilly Chair in Applied Gayness I'd nominate Nathan Lane (if he can work it around his schedule- it would probably pay more than Broadway and only take one day per week).

For the Richard Dawson "fading playboy" position George Hamilton.

Still living from the originals:

Patty McCormack
Fannie Flagg
Dawson (though retired)
Gary Burghoff (though nobody can stand him from what I've read)
Jamie Farr

For the Premier week:
Upper level
Seat 1: Snoop Dogg (he would only be on for this week then replaced with a new guest each week)
Seat 2: Loni Anderson (Brett's former position)
Seat 3: Dom Irrera (CNR's former spot)
Seat 4: Amy Pohler (another position to be changed each week)
Seat 5: Matt Le Blanc (he probably could use the job and the female viewers need something to look at. Dawson's old spot)
Seat 6: Nicole Ritchie (Taking over as the big breasted blonde.)

You should have seen my short list. I had Burt Reynolds in Seat 3. Talk about a freak show.

How about Billy Crystal, Farrah Fawcett, Loni Anderson, Spike Lee, and Nancy Cartwright?

Too bad Kitty Carlisle just died.

This would be, what, the third or fourth attempt to revive the franchise? It won't work. The original is unsurpassable and this, like every other attempt, is doomed to failure.

Nathan Lane is too famous to be CNR. I think that cutie who plays Jack on "Will & Grace" should do it, or Carson from "Queer Eye..."

Yeah, and put Megan in Brett's seat; they'd have a similar rapport.

Couldn't we just put her always-fabulous head in a jar or something?

Did you mean Patti Deutsch?

I love her voice.

And she's still alive.
