Guess she’s gone to join Charles Nelson Reilly in that big ___________ in the sky
She looks great in that link - somewhere a cosmetic surgeon is relaxing on a very big yacht.
Nice OP, Annie!
I whiled away (wiled away?) many a childhood afternoon watching The Match Game. Those two were pretty damn funny together.
Brilliant. Just wanted to say that.
Oh, that’s some sad news. I always enjoyed Brett so much.
I have a friend who took acting lessons from her. She said that Brett was just a cute and funny and nice as she seemed on TV.
Too bad she never accomplished her greatest dream: dancing on Jack’s grave.
Godspeed, Brett. God saved the middle seat in the top row just for you.
My first thought upon hearing the news was, “At least Charles Nelson Reilly is still with us…”
Dammit.
Aw, poo! I’m allowed to say “poo” on television, aren’t I, Gene?
Missed the edit window. Wikipedia had a strangely appropriate Match Game question in Brett’s article.
“You may or may not believe in reincarnation, but listen to this. In a previous life, Brett used to be a ________.”
So, Heaven’s Match Game show now has who all?
Gene, the star
top row: Nipsey, Brett, and Charles
bottom row: ?, ?, and Debralee
McLean Stevenson can fill the bottom middle chair. As for the ditsy blonde…Eva Gabor, perhaps? Everyone else (except Steve Allen) is still alive.
I agree, a brilliant tribute.
I also grew up watching Brett on numerous TV shows and The Match Game. It always looked like they had lots of fun on that show.
Did 'er.
Well, at least Old Man Periwinkle won’t have to shuffle too far to get to Old Lady Perkins. She’s over there on the top center cloud — the one with vodka in her ambrosia cup.
(RIP and Ogspeed to whatever your destiny, Ms Somers.)
Sometime prior to 1953, I’m guessing.
Loved the Match Game growing up, and it still holds up quite well as entertainment (though the $$$ values seem incredibly small now).
I wouldn’t turn my nose up at five or ten grand. Lingo on GSN offers a $5,000 prize (with a “first pull” progressive jackpot that starts at $10K), as do Chain Reaction and Camouflage. And I like those shows a lot more than the big ticket bore-fests like Millionaire, Deal or No Deal or that 5th Grader show. For that matter, The Price is Right prizes are generally in the few thousand dollar range too, except for the cars and such.
To me, the bottom middle chair will always be Richard Dawson.
Hmm…I’ll put him on the short list for the 2008 Death Pool.
I’ll have to tell my brother about this. He’s still a big Match Game fan.
I actually typed Richard Dawson first, then Wiki’d him and realized he was NDY (Not Dead Yet).
Yeah, I started to post something about how we could let McLean on, but only as a place-holder, and I realized that was a little over the line even for me.
You know, for a “R.I.P. Brett Somers” thread. Not in general, no, no, no.
