I've played through the original campaign and it was pretty fun, but a little too easy as a druid with the army they can lead. Now I'm on the last chapter of SOU as a level 16 driud/level 2 shifter. I've found SOU to be way too easy. I don't bother with a henchman, animal companion, or summoned creature, as it only takes one or two whacks or spells to kill anything in the game up to now. I don't even bother shifting, buffing with greater stoneskin, or being careful for traps. I just wear my ring of regeneration, and I've only been below half health once or twice.

Is HOU going to be this easy? Should I just quit now?

There's at least one fight in HOU that I've played through several times and never won. Luckily, you have other ways of dealing with the situation. Hordes gets fairly epic.

If you want things to be more difficult, play a rogue or something like that. They aren't difficult, but some things are more work for them. Or take off that ring.

However, I'd recommend playing your SOU character straight into HOU. The story sort of assumes you're that person, though you run into NPCs from the original campaign as well. Deekin will always talk about the adventures you had with him in Undrentide.

Though your stuff gets stolen in the first minute of the game, your gold does not. So if you roll a new character you'll be going in with almost no gear, but if you have a decent amount of cash from playing SOU you can buy a decent amount of stuff first.

There is also a fan-module (though it was part of a competition by Bioware) that is meant to bridge the gap (both in time and in levels) between SOU and HOTU. The name is escaping me at the moment but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about.

Are you wearing one of those damage soaking belts? They pretty much gimp the game. I always sold them if I found them.

I finished up SOU last night, selling off lots of stuff at discount prices to the lich, but when I started HOU, I only eneded up with 66661 gold. I tried a few different versions of my saved characters, and it seems this is a cap on what you can import.

I never saw the damage soaking belts. I'll be sure to sell them if HOU seems as easy as SOU. I'm a druid, so I need the belt of (fire?) giant strength +5 for carrying capacity.

So, do I ever get all my stuff back? It might be better if I don't, but I sure would like all of those bags of holding!

I just got outfitted with the substandard equipment available at the beginning of HOU, and Deekin and I are off to save Waterdeep tonight. Hopefully this is more of a challenge.

This game was fun and nice for me until I hit a spot for my mage that I had to physically fight. It's then King Nasher gets attacked. I can't take out all the stupid wraiths and crap by myself with that damned sword.

That's why I like the druid. It's the best of both worlds. You can lead an army as a tank or a spell caster and shift forms as necessary. For lower level fighters or spell casters, either works fine. For high level fighters, act as a spell caster. For high level spell casters, tank. You can also heal in several different ways. If it weren't for not being able to open locks + disarm traps without wasting skill points, the druid would be perfect.
