Differences among child molesters

Why are some molesters of the "friendly" priest/coach/teacher variety while others are of the scary "kidnap children off the street and dump the body" type? Are the two groups distinct, or are there molesters who find their victims both ways?

IANACM but I would imagine that they derive there perverse pleasures from different aspects of controlling there victums. One enjoys building up a trusting relationship and getting the victum to buy into the situtation, thus prolonging the relationship. The other just enjoys to take by force and destroying all evidance of there crime (ie, the victum).

I confess to having a sick enough sense of humor to have been amused by Si Amigo's disclaimer "IANACM."

From what little I've seen of pedophiles' writings (and I am aware that pedophile =/= CM, but there is certainly enough overlap to generalize from there), there appear to be five groups:

1. Those for whom sex with kids is a manifestation of dominance.
2. Psychopaths whose sole interest is in their own pleasure, with no thought of what the act will do to the kid.
3. Those with a romantic-love attitude towards the child -- which may be reciprocated! While one may deplore their perverse psyches, I think it needs to be recognized that, in their own mind at least, they mean no harm towards the child but rather a physical expression of a sincerely-felt if misguided love.
4. Those attracted to children who are ethical and "socially sane" enough to realize the potential psychological harm to the child, and who refrain from sexual contact.
5. A bizarre group of aesthetes, who claim to have a "pure appreciation of the beauty of naked children" -- but who are probably so deep in denial that they need to worry about the riverine crocodiles.

The "kidnap and kill" types are clearly from the first two groups. I suspect the family-member-molester and family-friend types are relatively evenly distributed among the first three groups.

Pedophiles presumably differ in their levels of social skills, just like everybody else. Maybe the scary "kidnap kids off the streets" ones are the ones that don't have the social skills to become coaches, priests, or teachers, or who don't have the social skills to "groom" their victims.
