American Idol Results Prediction Game #3

Ok, the Top 12 have be chosen, so it’s time once again to see how well you predict how America will vote. This…is the American Idol Prediction Game!

<cue opening animation>

We’ll be doing two things differently this year. First, the scoring is being radically changed and simplified (thanks much, Pleonast!). This time around it’ll be the lowest score that wins. Points will be assigned based on the difference between the position you predict someone will finish, and their actual finishing position. So if the person you think will come in 5th comes in 8th, that’s three points. If they come in 2nd, then that’s still three points. And if you nail it on the head and they come in 5th, then you’re doing fine and picking up zero points that week. So if you’re predictions match the way America votes, from top to bottom, then you’ll finish the game with zero points and will have a successful career in behavior analysis.

As for the second difference…well, it isn’t really a difference from last year – we’re just more prepared this time around. Last season the game was a bit skewed by the Idol Gives Back special – they didn’t eliminate anyone that week, instead combining voting results the following week and dropping the bottom two without announcing who was eliminated in which place. Will they do this again? We can’t really say. The schedule shows the following:

Tuesday, April 8: Top 8 Finalists Perform
Wednesday, April 9: Two Hour Idol Gives Back Concert/Fundraiser
Thursday, April 10: Results Show

Last year, they didn’t have a third show that week (at least I don’t remember there being one), so it’s hard to say how they’re going to work this one. So here’s the deal: If they eliminate someone that week, then no problem – that person will be the 8th place finisher. But if they do hold off eliminating someone that week, then the two people eliminated the following week will both be scored as coming in 7th, and the scoring will reflect both the 8th and 7th place choices as both being picking to come in 7th.

In other words, I’m picking Chikezie to go 8th and Amanda to go 7th. If they eliminate someone on Idol Gives Back week, then no problem. But if they don’t, then we’re going to look at it as I picked both Chikezie and Amanda to go 7th, and score it from there.

Ok then, that should do it for the rules. Now, let’s get those picks in! Here’s my futile prediction of how I see America voting:

  1. David Hernandez
  2. Ramiele Malubay
  3. Kristy Lee Cook
  4. Michael Johns

  6. Amanda Overmyer
  7. Jason Castro
  8. Brooke White
  9. David Cook
  10. Carly Smithson
  11. Syesha Mercado
  12. David Archuleta

Ok everyone, the deadline will be the opening credits for next week’s show, so make sure you’ve got your picks in before 8:00 Eastern on Tuesday, March 11th. Good luck!

Hey, I’ve put together a score sheet in Google docs.

SDMB American Idol 2008 Prediction Game

It should be publicly viewable. I’ll add in players as they the post, and then update it with the results.

Wow – nice work!

Here’s mine.

  1. Chikezie Eze
  2. David Hernandez
  3. Kristy Lee Cook
  4. Syesha Mercado
  5. David Cook
  6. Amanda Overmeyer
  7. Michael Johns
  8. Brooke White
  9. Jason Castro
  10. Ramiele
  11. Carly Smithson
  12. David Archuleta

I can’t keep most of the contestants straight this year, and my favorite didn’t make the top 12 (bye bye Diva Danny :() But I’ll give it a try anyway:

  1. Ramiele
  2. Kristy Lee Cook
  3. David Hernandez
  4. Syesha Mercado
  5. Chikezie Eze
  6. Michael Johns
  7. Brooke White
  8. Amanda Overmeyer
  9. David Cook
  10. David Archuleta
  11. Carly Smithson
  12. Jason Castro

My entry: (Thanks, Hal and Pleonast)

  1. Ramiele Malubay
  2. Kristy Lee Cook
  3. Amanda Overmyer
  4. Brooke White
  5. David Hernandez
  6. Chikezie
  7. Carly Smithson
  8. Michael Johns
  9. Syesha Mercado
  10. David Cook
  11. Jason Castro
  12. David Archuleta

Well, I think David Archuleta will win, but since almost everyone else has picked him, I’ll have to change it up…
12. Chikezie
11. Kristy Lee Cook
10. Amanda Overmeyer
9. Ramiele Malubay
8. David Hernandez
7. Michael Johns
6. David Cook
5. Syesha Mercado
4. Jason Castro
3. Brooke White
2. David Archuleta

  1. Carly Smithson

But really, I could have made this list by picking their names out of a hat. I think it’s better than even money that the top three will include David Archuleta and Carly Smithson. The rest is a total crapshoot, and will probably come down to bad performances at the wrong times.

Much as David Cook continues to give me the skeeving skeevies, I have to be honest with myself. He will remain far, far too long before going out in a blaze of glory:

  1. Amanda Overmyer
  2. Chikezie
  3. Carly Smithson
  4. Michael Johns
  5. David Hernandez
  6. David Archuleta
  7. Syesha Mercado
  8. Kristy Lee Cook
  9. David Cook
  10. Jason Castro
  11. Brooke White
  12. Ramiele Malubay

Well I’m not 100% happy with this, but it’s the best I can do I think. I may tinker with it a bit more if I have time. I think the winner could be one of several people easy, so just picked my favorite and went from there.
12. Kristy Lee Cook
11. Chikezie
10. Amanda Overmyer
9. Michael Johns
8. Ramiele Malubay
7. David Cook
6. Syesha Mercado
5. David Hernandez
4. Brooke White
3. David Archuleta
2. Carly Smithson

  1. Jason Castro

I wish I knew what all the theme nights were, then I think I’d have a better guess. So we’ll see how far off I am this time…

  1. Amanda Overmyer
  2. Chikezie
  3. Kristy Lee Cook
  4. Ramiele Malubay
  5. Michael Johns
  6. David Hernandez
  7. Brooke White
  8. David Cook
  9. Syesha Mercado
  10. Jason Castro
  11. Carly Smithson
  12. David Archuleta

Less that 24 hours to make your entry.

Ok, here’s my list…hopefully I finish better than I did last year.
12. Chikezie
11. Kristy Lee Cook
10. Amanda Overmyer
9. Ramiele Malubay
8. David Hernandez
7. Michael Johns
6. Syesha Mercado
5. Brooke White
4. Carly Smithson
3. David Cook
2. David Archuleta

  1. Jason Castro

Here’s my attempt:

  1. David Hernandez
  2. Chikezie
  3. Amanda Overmyer
  4. Michael Johns
  5. Jason Castro
  6. Carly Smithson
  7. Syesha Mercado
  8. David Cook
  9. Kristy Lee Cook
  10. Ramiele Malubay
  11. David Archuleta
  12. Brooke White

Just my guess.

Before the final 24 were announced, I spotted Chikezie and David Archuleta as likely to make it to the final few shows. Chikezie seems to be doing just enough to survive, while Archuleta is seen as the favorite in many quarters. With a combination of hope and logic, I present my picks:

  1. Kristy Lee Cook
  2. Michael Johns
  3. David Cook
  4. David Hernandez
  5. Brooke White
  6. Syesha Mercado
  7. Jason Castro
  8. Carly Smithson
  9. Chikezie
  10. Amanda Overmyer (gotta root for the Indiana girl!)
  11. Ramiele Malubay
  12. David Archuleta – new American Idol!
