Lord Il Palazzo, Patent Examiner

I just wanted to share some recent good news. I didn’t have a chance to post this sooner as I was down in New Orleans for a week for Spring Break.

Almost a year ago, a friend of a friend mentioned to me the possibility of getting a job with the US Patent and Trademark Office. As a senior in college, any possible lead on a job is greatly appreciated and when I heard the job described to me, it’s like something in my mind clicked. It was like a little voice in my mind heard the job description and said “Aha! That’s what I want to do!” After two separate and unrelated interviews, repeated contact back and forth with the friend of a friend and months of waiting, I received a call and a job offer last week. I promptly accepted.

Now, I’m an aerospace engineering major and according to the people I interviewed with, there aren’t very many slots for aerospace patent examiners. This is no problem, almost any engineering major can be hired as a mechanical patent examiner.

The great part of the offer I accepted is this; It was for a job as an aerospace patent examiner and was for about $11,000 more starting salary than I expected.

Hurray! The job hunt is over! Now all I’ve got to do is graduate.

High five!

Say, what do you think this rash on my thigh might be?

Oh, sorry, I thought you said *patient * examiner.

So, now you have something in common with Einstein, right?

Congratulations.

Tris

That’s SO cool!

I know one EU Patent Examiner and he’s got the weirdest stories. People submit some… interesting things.

I don’t know how many will come through the aerospace department but I’m definitely hoping to see a few of those.

Oh, I’m sure your coworkers from other sections will share things like what he describes. For example that contraption which was a sort of strap-on mechanical arm for patting yourself on the back when you do well 8) Eminently shareable.
