Give Neko Case a try. Her music is often considered "alt-country" or "Americana," as she is pretty far removed from the Nashville scene, but she is an excellent songwriter with a powerful, resonant voice, and an absolutely gorgeous redhead to boot. Her album Blacklisted, which I've pushed here many times before, is almost life-changing; it really is that damn good. Think of it as country-noir. She also sings with Canadian power pop supergroup The New Pornographers, but her solo albums will be right up your alley.

My other favorite gorgeous redhead alt-country singer is Jenny Lewis, former child actress and current frontwoman of indie-rock band Rilo Kiley. However, her solo album with the Watson Twins, Rabbit Fur Coat, is also extraordinary -- a great blend of country, folk, soul, pop, and rock with plenty of sexy swagger and a real sense of fun.
