1967 – The world’s first electronic automated teller machine was installed in Enfield Town, London by Barclays Bank.
1991 – Yugoslavia invaded Slovenia, two days after the latter’s declaration of independence from the former, starting the Ten-Day War.
1996 – The woman who would later be my wife kissed me.
We were on a log flume ride in Wildwood, NJ. She was sitting in front of me, leading back against my chest. It was nice…very nice…but a little awkward. After all, here’s this girl, so unbelievably…well…hot…leaning up against me like that, but there was no way I could make a move. I mean, first of all she was my best friend’s kid sister, and that’s a place you simply don’t go. And second of all, she was my best friend’s kid sister…a full 10 years younger than I. Not jailbait, but a pretty deep wrong. Still…she was fine.
And then, as we turned into a tunnel where none of the group we were with could see, she quickly turned around an kissed me.
“Where did that come from?”, I asked in stunned disbelief.
“Oh God…I’m so sorry!” she replied, thinking I meant it some kind of alternate-reality “Ewwww, yucky girl-kisses!” kind of way.
“Nonono, no need to be sorry…I just…well, it was unexpected. But very, very nice.”
The next tunnel was the first place I ever kissed her back. I still never miss an opportunity to plant one on her, and she’s still the most beautiful woman I’ve every laid eyes on.
Thank you, kittenlm, for twelve amazing, wonderful years. I love you.
