I remember someone suggesting that “Yma Sumac” was a pseudonym, and that her real name was “Amy Camus” (spell it backwards). It’s certainly just an odd coincidence. According to Wikipedia, “Yma Sumac” is a pseudonym, but her real name was Zoila Augusta Emperatriz Chavarri del Castillo. A book I have on the Inca translated the words “Yma Sumac” as “Very Beautiful”. I’ll bet the book wouldn’t have even mentioned that if she hadn’t been around.

In 1962, Thomas Meehan wrote a funny piece for the *New Yorker *called “Yma Dream” that plays off exactly this kind of thing. You can see the text at the magazine’s Web site if you’re a subscriber. (You can see *everything *that’s ever been in the New Yorker if you’re a subscriber, which is pretty cool!)
But here’s Anne Bancroft doing it as a comedy skit.
