Anyone out there trying the new IE8? I just installed it tonight and haven’t tested things out much, but so far it at least looks pretty. There’s a new suggested sites thing and Accelerators that help you email, translate and blog web content which all seem interesting if only marginally useful.
Most notably so far is that the way it displays the Alt-text on the Dope is superior to Firefox.
ETA: After clicking around the Dope for a bit it seem way faster than FF3. Hmm, interesting development.
Gotta find a way for IE8 to spell check my Dope posts like Firefox does. I can’t imagine why M$ wouldn’t make this standard. Odd.
IE8 also includes an “InPrivate” setting that allows you to browse without the websites, search terms and history being stored. Essentially a PornMode™ like Google Chrome has. Nice.
Early impressions tells me that FF3 should be very worried.
Does it run on a Mac?

(Actually, I’m thinking of trying it out on my XP partition. My friend said that my new test website was not well rendered by IE6, and I’m curious how IE8 will handle it.)
I’ve been using it since I installed the Windows 7 beta. I hate not having the spellcheck also. It has frozen my computer about three times in the past month or so. Other than that it’s meh. Just another web browser.
Have you found it to be faster than FF3? Seems like it’s miles quicker than either that or IE7. I found that IE7Pro, a plug in made for IE7, works fine and does in-line spell check for it. The fact it’s not built in seems really stupid, though.
IE8 also has a automatic compatibility mode that allows it to render websites using IE6 or 7 protocols. Has worked on the one website I’ve come across that didn’t display properly.
