Damn.

That’s the only place I can find any word on this at the moment – nothing elsewhere on the web, nor on any news/sports TV stations. Because of this, I’m going to have to guess this is unconfirmed just yet. Hope this is all a mistake…

hmmm … WKRN also is running the story, but WSMV is not, and neither is The Tennessean (although it doesn’t surprise me about the latter, they are usually the last to post breaking news to their web site).

Also being reported here:

“A 911 call came into police at 1:46pm local time in Nashville. McNair and a female were foud dead from a gunshot to the head according to Nashville TV stations.”

(*: it wouldn’t load in Firefox for me.)

Confirmed independently by ESPN: Steve McNair, former Tennessee Titans QB, found dead of gunshot wound - ESPN

The other sources I saw just reported that the TV station in Nashville was reporting it.

Is it wrong that my first thought was, “Why couldn’t it have been Michael Vick?”

I forgot about “The Game Room.” Can someone please move this thread?

OK, now it’s posted on the Tennessean, with their ow confirmation with the police dept

It’s hit all of the media here in Nashville :frowning:

Since he’s a sports figure, I’m moving this to the Game Room.

And CNN: http://www.cnn.com/

Which makes it “official” for me, for whatever reason that is.

Poor Steve - isn’t he the second NFL-er to be shot in the past few months?

Jesus, what’s the celebrity count now in the last few weeks? 8? 9? This is starting to get weird.

I can’t believe he’s screwing with Sarah Palin’s news cycle!

Ok, seriously, this is shocking and sad stuff. Also for the woman found with him.

Sad. Never the biggest Titans fan but I always respected the amount of punishment he seemed to take and yet continue to play.

Thoughts to the lady’s family as well.

Actually, it’s been a bit longer than that - I was thinking of Sean Taylor, who was shot in November of 2007.

Gotta love that aging memory!

Sorry to hear this news. Steve was a fan of many here. :frowning:

The woman has been identified as Steve’s girlfriend and it was her condo.

Man, that sucks. McNair was always one of my favorite non-Bears players. He and Eddie George were the reasons why the Titan’s were one of my adopted AFC Teams.

The circumstances sound bizarre and dramatic to say the least. Found in a female friends home shot in the head. He was married I believe so perhaps it’s a love triangle gone awry. Maybe a murder-suicide. Maybe a robbery or other random act of violence. McNair has generally been free of any negative press or thuggish drama so it will be interesting to hear what the investigation turns up.

He was never my favorite player, or practically even in my top 10, but every account I ever heard was that he was a stand-up guy who was loved by his teammates, community, and everyone who came into contact with him.

Sucks that bad things happen to good people.

I have a fraternity brother who knew him at Alcorn State. Said he wasn’t the smartest guy, but he knew football. He came to Houston and dealt with the whole moving to Tennessee, Black college quarterback can’t compete vs. NFL talent stigma, and handled it with class (and success)! One of the toughest guys to ever play the position. Heartbroken for him and the Titans that they couldn’t cash it in at their Super Bowl.

By all accounts he was married and the woman he was with was not his wife. Oh man. A bad way to go… hope that they both rest in peace and the families find some solace.

BTW, I checked the Nashville station sites and the other victim was a 20 year old female. There was an Escalade registered in both her and McNair’s name. Apparently his wife had not seen him in a few days. McNair was shot several times and the woman was shot once in the head. My money is on a jealous ex- or current boyfriend. It was originally reported as a murder-suicide but most places I’ve seen it reported as a double homicide. Eerie.

He was only 36, a year younger than me. :frowning:
