People who don't often check in with MPSIMS

I’ve said it a couple of times. I don’t often check in with MPSIMS. Once in a while, I remember that it has, in addition to threads about kittens and raindbows, threads announcing the deaths or plights of members. But I have to admit that I don’t recognize many — maybe most — of the names in this forum. (And very likely, it’s turnabout as well. I’m probably not well known in this forum.)

Anyway, I thought this would be a good place for people who don’t often post here to get to know people who do.

(I guess I should get something out of the way. I have spoken of MPSIMS before in a manner that made it sound like it was less significant than other forums. But only because of the nature of the board. I didn’t design it.)

So, I’ll start with myself. I’m Liberal. Formally known as Libertarian. Nearly ten year veteran. Probably highest post count (or close to it.) I’ve had a long history of high maintenance, emotional blow-ups and dramatic breakdowns and stuff like that. Now, not so much. Found some good doctors and got lucky.

I tend to be polarizing. There are people who like me a lot and people who can’t stand me. I think there are also people who would like to like me, but are just waiting for me to clean up my act. (They’ll need more evidence than a few months of cleaned up behavior.)

But I’m also someone who’ll be there when you need help, whether it’s giving some money for a good cause or just giving some encouragement to a fellow weight loser. (I’ve lost about 60 pounds, and have about another 60 to go to reach my ideal. I was losing much faster than that, but my Internist put a stop to the 400 calorie a day diet.)

Over the years, I’ve probably spent most of my time in Great Debates, the Pit, ATMB, and to some extent, Cafe Society. Sometimes GQ. And rarely MPSIMS (hence the thread.)

So what about the rest of you? If you’re just checking in, introduce yourself to the MPSIMSers and tell some stuff about yourself. And likewise, if the MPSIMSers want to check in, maybe the board’ll become sort of closer. (At least, for me.)

Oh yeah, and people call me Lib. (Or other words, I’m sure.)

I like this one, CS, IMHO, and GQ. Even if you make a totally idiotic comment in one of them, you can bet it’ll disappear in 48 hours or less. Much safer than having your name tagged to a dumb statement made in a GD debate that’s been at the top of the list for the past 3 months. :slight_smile:

I was just kidding. Of course I have read many threads where you post. Some quite interesting. I read GD and the Pit and try hard not to post in either, I don’t always succeed.

So which forums a person reads and posts in is supposedly important to other people on the boards? It’s so important that you create a post about it – in a forum you don’t normally visit?

I read some of the forums and not others most days. If I have a question or want to start a conversation I pick the most appropriate forum. I reply to threads when I feel like it.

Whether or not one of the board’s most prolific and notorious posters introducing himself to the denizens of MPSIMS falls into that catetory I’ll leave for others to decide.

Goddamn, for a bunch of supposedly enlightened liberals this place has got to be the rudest, most negative, snarkiest forum I’ve ever visited. Even boards where insults are allowed without restriction and half of all topics get a first response that is simply a “fail” picture aren’t as bitchy as this place.

So threadshittng is fine (even though it is counter-productive and has consistently lowered the tone and poisoned the well around here for the last few years), but being fed up with it is right over the top. Gotcha. Makes perfect sense.

Hey, Lib! You and I cross paths once in a while, but I don’t post very often. I’m so glad to see that you really have achieved a greater sense of peace and balance than you once seemed to have.

Well, on the bright side, attention-whoring seems to be acceptable behavior. At least, this thread is still open.

I don’t post very often in MPSIMS either but somehow I don’t feel the need to introduce myself to those who do hang out here.

Nah---- what am I thinking? That’d make too much sense. Only posts where you don’t insult anybody get you warned for insults, because god knows I see plenty of insults around here that are completely ignored by the mods, just like yours will be.
