What did they do with all the old parking meters?
Just so this doesn't get lost in the shuffle...
Thanks. > In a message dated 9/22/2009 1:39:08 P.M. Probably not completely relevant, but possibly:
Many years ago, maybe mid-70's, we found and bought for my dad and old parking meter that had been turned into a lamp. Cleaned up, re-painted and all. You could set it by a switch to either turn off when your dimes expired, or just be a lamp and stay on until it was turned off. |

I've seen some on Devon which have labels stating that they have been left in place as a courtesy to cyclists. Presumably they are useful for deterring very short bicycle thieves.

I worked for the company LAZ over the summer, the old meters are getting scrapped. One of the city employees told me that they aren't getting much for the metal. I also can tell you that there are probably 7,000 meters just sitting in a basement of a building. I can't tell you where that building is but I'm sure if you think about it you'll figure it out.
