100 Coin Missions

So I’ve been finishing Super Mario Sunshine, finally, and I’m noticing how much I"m enjoying the 100-coin missions (basically, you have to find 100 of the ordinary coins to get a Star). I liked them in Super Mario 64 as well…the collecting aspect, the fact that it looks easy while being quite hard, the simplicity of it in some respects, and so on.

So can anyone recommend another game that has a similar type of ‘100-coin mission’? Because most games that involve collecting 100 only give out an extra life, and thus make it easy. I’m talking one where the collecting is a mission in and of itself, as opposed to an extra.

Arkham Asylum is pretty clever about it, you get a hint for each area and then you need to examine a specific object related to the hint. The first ones are pretty easy, but soon it gets quite tricky and you have to find the right angle to make them work, so it’s pretty fun trying to figure it out. And the bonuses are things like character biographies and some extra XP, so they’re not essential to progress in the game but still kind of fun to collect.

Banjo-Kazooie, another N64 platformer (which rivals Mario 64 in terms of quality), made you collect 100 notes per level. And there were ONLY 100 notes, so you had to find them all. The game’s available on Xbox Live now as well–and improved in that regard as dying no longer affects the notes you have collected. It’s a very fun game, and for $15, a steal.

More modern speaking, the new** Prince of Persia **has you collecting “seeds” (large glowing balls) to unlock new worlds. Also very fun, and addictive.

Oh, and how could I forget Mario Galaxy, the newest Mario game on Wii. Although it doesn’t have the ‘100-coin challenges’ for every level, it has several similar challenges in many of the levels. Bloody fantastic game, also.
