As a nice little prelude to Sunday’s Grey Cup, on Saturday there’s another national championship on the line, with another Calgary team trying to succeed where Henry Burris failed: U. of Calgary Dinos v. Queen’s Golden Gaels for the Vanier Cup (10 a.m. tomorrow, CST).
I was a bit conflicted in the play-offs, since one of my alma maters was playing the other for the eastern final, but the Gaels defeated the Laval Rouge et Or, so we’re all good - decision made.
So, Go Gaels!
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a’Banrighinn gu brath!
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a’Banrighinn gu brath!
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a’Banrighinn gu brath!
Cha-gheill! Cha-gheill! Cha-gheill!
Put on your old Queen’s sweater, the dirtier the better,
And we’ll all have another case of beer!
MORE BEER!
'Cause it’s not for the knowledge that we go to college
But to raise hell all the year!
Well, they took away our whiskey, and they took away our rye,
And they took away our late leaves too,
But we thank the Lord above us that we still have girls to love us
And our old Queen’s sweater too!
QUEEN’S ONCE! QUEEN’S TWICE! HOLY JUMPING JESUS CHRIST!
RIM RAM GOD DAMN SONOFABITCH SHIT! …
I should stop there.
So I guess you guys were cheering for U of Calgary?
Seriously, I had to miss the second half, but it sounds like it was an exciting game. No Queen’s affiliation here–unless you count wandering through the campus once or twice when I’ve been to Kingston–but good to hear that an old school with a long tradition of football won.
