70's Rock Song : "Itchigoo Park"?

Anybody remember this one? It was playing constantly-I don’t know the group name.

Small Faces, right? “Itchycoo Park”.

Spelled wrong. Itchycoo Park by the Small Faces.

And it was the 60s…1966, 1967 IIRC. Maybe 1968.

If only there was some kind of search … thingy, that you could type “Itchigoo Park” into and have it suggest options. That would be awesome.

I vaguely remember reading an interview with Steve Marriot (I think), who said that the song was intended pretty much as a joke, that it was meant to be a pastiche of the kind of thing that was popular at the time. It turned out to be a big hit. I think it’s a pretty good little rocker myself.

I LOVED that song in the 60’s! It personifies the happy, upbeat, fashiony part of the 60’s, when we mini-skirted and longhaired kids were young, and the future was bright, in our naive minds.

That would make an interesting thread. “What song of your youth filled you with joy and optimism before life ground you down?”

Here it is: http://www.mixx.com/videos/8534712/youtube_small_faces_itchycoo_park

I heard that song on the radio about a month ago (WDVE Pittsburgh) for one of their afternoon Deep cuts.

“What did we do there?”

“It’s all too beautiful…”

There is such a thing. Here is an example of how it works.

We got high. And grooved about.

Now if there were only a device that would tell people that a link to the very same video was posted just five posts above theirs, what a wonderful world that would be.

Hee hee hee don’t ask is taking my heat, and I get off scott free!

M People had a big hit with it in the '90s.

Fresh Air ( but not Terry Gross ) was interviewing former Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan a few years back and the first song NPR had lined up was of course “Itchycoo Park”, probably their most recognizable song. So he asks Ian McLagan about it and the down to earth and very direct McLagan says he actually hates the song and utterly refused to play it as a condition of doing one of the reunion tours. The interviewer ( probably Dave Davies ) seemed flustered, embarrassed and completely caught off guard. A great interview moment :D.

My question is: “Did they really say 'feed the ducks with a bun?”

hh

Why not? Americans feed bread to ducks that are in ponds in parks. Bun is a better word. It rhymes with sun.

I just heard it on the radio this morning!

Ian wrote a great book about his life and times with The Faces: All the Rage: A Riotous Romp Through Rock & Roll History
