'Forgotten' songs from the 60's (i.e. 1964 to 1974ish)

There is no shortage of underappreciated tracks from this era. Some seem to have been totally forgotten. (Sure, not ‘totally’, but I think you know what I mean).

What track would you include in a list of forgotten cuts?

Let me start with Spirit’s Nature’s Way from their Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus

Oh yes, there are more . . . but for anyone who might want to add, please no more than one or two tracks per post.

Perhaps “Caroline No” from the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds album.

Paul Davis – Ride 'em Cowboy

I loved that whole album. Still a favorite.

My personal choice for this thread with little to no thought: Red Rubber Ball by the Cyrkle.

What a great one. (You know who gave them their name, eh?)

ETA: Oh, and Hole in my Shoe (Traffic)

Jesse Colin Young’s (formerly of the Youngbloods) Song for Juli (1973) comes immediately to mind:

How about “Sweet City Woman” by the Stampeders? Pretty much qualifies as a one hit wonder too, I guess.

A Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy is one of my favorite forgotten tunes.

Oh, outstanding! Bet you also like Didn’t Want to Have Do It by the Lovin Spoonful. John Sebastian was a genius.

Nick Drake’s Pink Moon album:Pink Moon - Wikipedia

Bill Fay’s self titled album: Bill Fay (album) - Wikipedia

I don’t know if that one is that forgotten. I definitely still hear it from time to time, and my exposure to it was in the late 80s/early 90s (I was born in '75). So it survived well enough that I’m more-than-familiar with it, and know it’s often mistaken for a Simon & Garfunkel tune (and with good reason, as it was written by Paul Simon. ETA: And Bruce Woodley, I guess, after looking it up.)

Pink Moon is an interesting one. Perhaps not anywhere near as well-known as it should be, but a VW ad renewed interest in his work around 2000. Still, he deserves much more exposure.

From 1973 – Michael Stanley Rosewood Bitters

IIRC that is fellow Clevelander Joe Walsh on the slide guitar.

One that I encountered watching Netflix originals that I didn’t remember at all was "Anyone (who knows what love is) by Irma Thomas. I thought I knew my sixties music like the back of my hand, but somehow I missed this one.

Well, it’s time to once more drag out my favorite song nobody knows, the Everly Brother’s I’m On My Way Home Again. A 1968 single that totally tanked, but a beautiful piece of classic country rock, accompanied by mates Clarence White and Gene Parsons. Formidable.

Carole King’s So Far Away, from her epic album Tapestry.

Here’s another beautiful ‘country’ song that’s also forgotten, regrettably. Hoyt Axton’s mournful ‘Billie’s Theme’ (1974)

The Chad and Jeremy reference brought to mind Peter and Gordon: The song is “I go to pieces”.

I agree on Spirit; 12 Dreams is filled with great underappreciated songs.

I’ll go with Emitt Rhodes, whose self-titled album is just perfect pop. Only the incompetence of his record company kept him from being a hit. You can pick several songs from that album, but I’ll go with “With My Face on the Floor.”

A fate he shared with the similarly great pop masters Big Star. Here’s their Ballad Of El Goodo, a song that’s not played very often.
