You can't beat a dead horse--Trigger Happy?

Trigger’s remains to be included in an upcoming auction of Roy-Rogers-abilia.

Not sure what you’d do with it, once you had it.

Dang … maybe I should’ve titled the thread “Trigger Happy?”

:frowning:

i didn’t even realize that

a.) The Roy Rogers Museum had closed in December

or

b.) that it was in Branson, Missouri. I thought it was in California, or something.
In any case, all its holding are to be auctioned off, with the big prize being Roy Rogers’ horse, stuffed and mounted, “Trigger”.

They;‘re also auctioning off Dale Evans’ horse “Buttermilk”, and their dog “Bullet”.
They figure that Trigger will bring $100,000-$200,000.

What about Dale?

Damn – I simulposted in MPSIMS:

And, regarding your title – it’s not true. I can run rings around Wildfire.

From the linked page:

Thanks for the heads up – I merged that into this. (Pulling rank? Nope, merges default to the earlier thread. :D)

I visited the museum when it was in CA. I didn’t know it moved to Branson.

The Smithsonian should pick up most of this stuff.

Hubba hubba!

I remember the joke on SNL weekend news about Trigger. They said that Trigger had been stuffed and mounted by Roy Rogers. Then they said that Dale would be stuffed and mounted, too, but not necessarily in that order.

I can’t think of any logical reaosn why I should find this TRIGGER (1934-1965) any more disgusting than, say, a pair of leather shoes. And yet, just, Ewwwwwwww! ! ! [URL=“TRIGGER (1934-1965)”]

That one almost looks photoshopped.

Your wish is our command.

Roy’s museum in Victorville was really cool. I think they moved it to Branson thinking that the visitor demographic would be better there. A big mistake, IMHO. That section of I-15 (right near Route 66*) guaranteed a steady stream of tourists. Obviously the draw wasn’t all that big in Missouri. Now the collection will end up scattered all over the place. Too bad. :frowning:

*RT 66 isn’t too far from Branson, either, but it’s not really a destination for travelers on the Mother Road.

Mom, my brother & I toured the Roy & Dale Museum a few years before it moved from California to Branson, MO. Apparently, it couldn’t stay alive there & everything is up for auction. Kinda sad that the collection is being dispersed & the family couldn’t preserve it. So it goes…

Of course, the big draw is the taxidermied remains of Trigger.

You’ve been beaten to the draw, pardner.

Edit - never mind, it got merged. :smack:

Honestly, I find this incredibly sad. These weren’t just ‘belongings’, they were beloved companions.

Then, there is the other side of the coin… the article I read in one of the horse magazines back in the 80’s where they interviewed Roy, and he told the story of when he got Trigger back freom the taxidermist, who was a personal friend.

Trigger was delivered and set up in the museum with an erection, as a ‘joke’ by the friend. Roy was horrified, as he knew there was going to be a group of kids there in the morning to tour the museum.

He said he laid there tossing and turning all night and finally got pout of bed and went down to the museum… with a hacksaw in hand. He said ‘I’m sorry boy’ and… Trigger lost his stallionhood.

Sounds like the auction did pretty well.
