Starcraft II Official Thread

It looms in the horizon like a zerg rush!

Starcraft II is only a few days away, what are your plans? Are you picking it up, getting it later, passing on it or have you been eagerly waiting for it?

So far the pre-orders are up to almost 700,000. That’s more than Halo Reach, but not as much as COD:MW2, but that was out for three different platforms. This is a PC only release and those numbers are only US retail sales only. So this is going to be a big title indeed!

I really wasn’t looking forward to it much, I figured I’d wait and see, and Blizzard’s reputation for taking forever to release a game didn’t help. But this past few weeks have really ramped up my excitement. I pre-loaded the digital version already and am eagerly awaiting Tuesday morning.

I’ll also be running a small LAN party at my house next weekend, and will probably be joining the PC Gamer virtual LAN party that weekend as well. Gonna be fun.

It’s launching for Mac at the same time, isn’t it?

My WoW guildies are probably all going to be playing this a lot over the next few weeks. I feel kinda bad about not having played the first one (RTS games aren’t really my thing). Maybe I’ll pick up SC2 just to ask naive questions to aggravate them. “So, what’s Kerrigan’s deal, exactly?”

I meant PC in it’s holistic, encompassing sense. Personal Computer, so Mac too of course.

PC Gamer is running a “All you ever wanted to know about Starcraft II” special series of articles through out the week - http://www.pcgamer.com

Yep–I’m super-excited, my excitement marred only by the fact that I’ll be spending the next week chilling with friends in a rustic cabin in a Virginia state park :(. I’m sure it’ll be fun. I’m just not sure it’ll be Starcraft fun.

My brother-in-law is house-sitting, so he’ll be receiving the computer upgrades I ordered in anticipation of the game. It’s pre-loaded, sitting on my computer now. Which I wonder about–how are they preventing piracy if they’re letting people pre-load the game? Is there a crucial file missing that’ll need to be downloaded/decrypted at the last minute?

Next Sunday I’ll be playing the heck out of some starcraft.

I took Wednesday off from work so I can play it for 20 or 25 hours between when I get home Tuesday night and when I have to go to work Thursday morning. Does that accurately convey my excitement level?

I see they’ve decided that Raynor shouldn’t look like Garibaldi anymore. Nor does he seem to be a Vulture pilot.

The personal drama from the original game always seemed pretty thin to me, though possibly because I never read any of the books. But from the latest clip, it’s looking a lot more compelling.

Hopefully we can get an sdmb game or two going This week after release. Ive been practicing in sc1. Wait, No one here is Korean right?

I’m a little annoyed they replaced Kerrigan’s original actor, as she was the most compelling character in SC1. Her replacement, Tricia Helfer, is an excellent actor, but I prefer vocal continuity in my sequels.

Wait, Kerrigan is going to be played by Number Six? That opens up all sorts of crossover potential.

Never mind. Post deleted.

It certainly sounds like Raynor is played by the same guy, but he’s not using the good ol’ boy dialect from the previous game. I can’t imagine this Raynor saying “This is Jimmy” all the time.

Last weekend, I got an e-mail indicating I had been chosen to beta-test on my old(er) Mac. I just about wet myself in excitement. So I downloaded the game. And then I downloaded the first patch. And then I down loaded the second patch. And the third … but the third couldn’t even complete the process. Froze at 71%. So I guess I won’t be playing SCII on my old(er) Mac.

:(:(:(:(:frowning:

My brother is picking up two copies at a midnight opening tonight. One for me! The bastard has tomorrow off, so he’ll be playing all day. I’ve got to work all week, but I figure I’ll get in a few games every night. Starcraft was probably the first game I fell for. Hard. I still remember opening the box, reading the manual, and playing my first few games. I’m psyched.

anyone else getting it digitally from blizzard? I think I might just do it that way and then pick up a physical copy a few years from now when its cheap if the game turn out to be worth it.

Some of the digital downloads are allowing installs now. Of course you still can’t play since the keys haven’t gone on sale yet, and won’t until tomorrow 10am PST. If I had someone to go with me I’d go to the local midnight opening, but I don’t :frowning:

10 am? oh damn. I was hoping “midnight”. I’m about 60% installed at this point.

I’m getting mine through Amazon – estimated delivery date August 2. Of course, I’ve been surprised by them before. But I don’t think they’ll beat the new video card to my door. I hope not, anyway. Currently my machine would have trouble running Quake.

I picked up my collector’s edition copy at my local Best Buy. It’s a monster of a box. Can’t wait till the work day is over. I wonder what would happen if someone were to pull the fire alarm… hmmm.

Well, I can’t play it. I get the background movie of the main menu repeating, but no menu. I tried reinstalling, but that didn’t fix the problem. I emailed tech support, but i doubt i’ll get a response anytime soon. I can’t post in the battle.net forums because you need an in-game character to post, and I can’t get in game to make a character.

Frustrating.
