Not her personally. She seems very sweet and is indeed a funny person. It’s the whole hipster, ironic “isn’t it cool I like someone who was born before my grandparents were” resurgence that is starting to annoy me. Betty, I wish you all the best; the 20 year old wearing a Betty White tee shirt, you’re a D-bag.
“i’m getting kind of sick of hipsters, and poser hipsters”
yeah. i can get behind that. i want my pbr back.
I think it’s cool that she’s being appreciated while she’s still around to appreciate the appreciation.
Agreed. She was always my favorite on Match Game. F.U., Richard Dawson!
I do hate hipsters, though.
You need to quit hanging out around hipsters.
Huh. I don’t really care if it’s cool or hip or even a bit ironic. I think it’s great that 20-somethings can appreciate what an 80-something has to offer, and of course it’s even better that it’s happening know while she has the ability to enjoy it.
Here’s the thing. If I thought it was sincere it probably wouldn’t bother me. I don’t think it is so it does.
But hipsters are so hip!
Thank gods they’re not poseurs, then they’d be annoying and French.
When they told me she was on SNL I tried desperately to find something I cared less about.
But, alas.
No fucks were given that day.
me too. I am not going to sleep with her again no matter what kinky promises she makes.
If Betty White had no talent, I’d be sick of her. But she is a genuinely gifted person who not only has innate comedic skill, she’s not afraid of being the joke – like when she would go on Leno, stand behind the plexiglass and have something lobbed at her to see if she’d flinch.
Give me a thousand times more Betty than Snooki.
The next thing you are going to tell us is that you are sick of Brett Favre.
I’d take 10 Betty White’s over 1 Brett Favre.
But they don’t appreciate it. They only like her 'cause she was “declared cool.” It’s not like they all went out and discovered her talent.
It started out as a joke, a campaign to see “if” they could get White on SNL.
And then she became “the thing”
Ah. I get’cha. Guess I need to read for comprehension.
I agree. 20-somethings – how likely is it that they’ve seen her in anything except SNL and the Super Bowl ad? That’d be like me wearing a Lady Gaga tee shirt.
As a 20-year-old, I would like to state for the record that I loved Betty White way before the whole Betty White resurgence.
I don’t know if that makes me hipper than the hipsters, or totally uncool, or just a normal person who watches TV, or too old for my age, or insincere, or too sincere, or I need to get a life, or I need to start watching TV shows geared towards my age group, or all of the above, or none of the above.
And “The Golden Girls”! I’m a 20-something (barely, but still) who watched the show in its original run and has seen it regularly in reruns over the years. I assumed her resurgent popularity stemmed from being the last surviving cast member of that much-loved show.
Rue McClanahan didn’t pass away until the Betty White resurgence was well underway, so it isn’t about being the last surviving cast member, but I do agree that the Golden Girls has a lot to do with it.
Don’t forget the availability of The Mary Tyler Moore show on TVLand, etc., in which the Sue Ann Niven character matches some of the raunch she’s now partially known for.
Her appearance on My Wife & Kids is really funny. Especially the outtake at the end: Damon, would you please learn your goddam lines?
