Fight between Norton 2011 and Spyware Doctor

Norton Antivirus and Spyware Doctor (without Antivirus) have coexisted on PC’s for years. Each does their own unique jobs very well.

Now these dumb asses are in a pissing contest. :frowning: We the consumers are caught in the middle.

Just tried upgrading Norton 2010 to 2011. Wouldn’t install because Spyware Doctor was installed.

These two companies obviously know about each other. Why in the heck can’t they continue to coexist? After all these years they have to see who has the biggest dick?

So, now I’m supposed to choose? Norton is useless against Malware. Stuff like Vundo fly right by Norton. Spyware Doctor and Malware Bytes are your only hope.

For now I’m keeping Norton 2010 and Spyware Doctor. Norton can bite it.

My, my, my, this iMac certainly is a pleasure to use…

I wouldn’t mind an iMac.

My frustration with Norton Anti virus has been growing for years. Norton has a nasty habit of taking over the pc. Spyware Doctor has always worked well with Norton for years.

Suddenly, the new 2011 Norton version refuses to install with Spyware Doc on the pc. Not Cool.

I’m seriously considering dropping Norton. MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is free and getting rave reviews.

I like Avira (avira.com) - the premium security suite. You can use if for free for 60 days. If you get it, a 3 PC, 3 year contract is the best deal. It co-exists happily with Malwarebytes and MSE (microsoft security essentials - freeware). I tweak the set up to offer maximum protection (eg, have to turn on the rootkit detection feature), but it should do a good job right out of the box.

I don’t know what Windows you’re using, but here are instructions for XP and previous versions:

Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages

I didn’t get an error message. Norton 2011 stops halfway into the upgrade/install. Says incompatible software detected (Spyware Doc) and provides a link to uninstall it.

I just canceled the 2011 upgrade and continued using 2010 version. Thankfully, the upgrade hadn’t uninstalled my older version of norton yet.

You can try and get technical service to give it a try using remote access. Also, you can try the Norton board:

However, Spyware Doctor is not alone in this problem:

Really? Your attention is needed over here…
